DarkLinks 18: Fighting the culture war

Hoping everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. This edition of DarkLinks features some different sources of links. JD Rucker’s article is a must read. And in case you had doubts about Chick-Fil-A caving, they have been exposed for donating to the anti-Christian Southern Poverty Law Center.

The left isn’t winning the culture war. Too many on the right just stopped fighting it.

By JD Rucker @ NOQ Report

We must not be complacent. Too often I see Christians fighting for inclusion and conservatives trying to prove they’re not bigots. In both cases, the boogeyman isn’t real. We aren’t called to give a watered down version of our faith. We’re called to spread the Gospel to all. We’re not beholden to the left’s labels unless we willfully acknowledge them, thereby giving them power. Fearing a label and changing our actions or words as a result of that fear is neither noble nor warranted, even in today’s polarized society. We must fight for what’s right regardless of how we perceive our audience is going to react.

Gay marriage, for example, is settled law thanks to the cultural shift prompted by President Obama and a Supreme Court that got the issue wrong. If someone wants to call me a bigot because I believe marriage should be between a man and a woman, I don’t have to prove to them I’m not a bigot. Science, religion, and common sense are all on my side on this one. I’m not promoting sexuality conversion therapy or demanding homosexuals should be treated differently from heterosexuals. I’m defending the institution of marriage as laid out in the Bible centuries before the rainbow flag was mainstreamed. What anyone does in private is not my concern as long as it doesn’t harm others. I’m not their judge.

A Tale of Two Buffalo Grads in the Southern Baptist Convention

By Enemies Within The Church

Given how little Buffalo resembles Southern Baptist strongholds like Dallas, Nashville, or Raleigh-Durham, one ought to take a moment to consider the bizarre emergence of two Buffalo grads as key personalities in Southern Baptist news.

Karen Swallow Prior graduated from the Buffalo in the late 1990s with a PhD in English, while Robert Lopez graduated from the same program in 2003. They seem not to have overlapped much while they studied. As he explained recently, Robert Lopez remembers meeting Dr. Prior in his early graduate years and knowing she stood out as a Christian. While they had extremely different journeys in their academic careers they seem to have collided in the Baptist media because of their respective job statuses.

Chick-fil-A Funded Anti-Christian Group Tied to Attack on Family Research Council

By Todd Starnes

“Not only has Chick-fil-A abandoned donations to Christian groups including the Salvation Army, it has donated to one of the most extreme anti-Christian groups in America,” Perkins told me. “Anyone who opposes the SPLC, including many Protestants, Catholics, Jews, Muslims, and traditional conservatives, is slandered and slapped with the ‘extremist’ label or even worse, their ‘hate group’ designation.”

Over the years millions of Christians mobilized to fight for Chick-fil-A. They defended the company from a militant mob of LGBT activists and their supporters in the Mainstream Media and the Democrat Party.
