Kanye For President

Should Christians support Kanye West for President?

America has been craving someone to break the political duopoly for decades. Furthermore America has not had a Christian President in decades. Enter Kanye West for President. He launched himself into the fray by calling the nation back to God. I do believe that politics is a legitimate realm for Christian influence to take hold and spread the Gospel, just as athletics and education are. If we are to believe that Kanye West is a genuinely born again believer, then the question of supporting our brother in Christ is worth asking. For the sake of this question, let us assume that he is.

On abortion, Kanye West would be poised to be the most pro-abolition President in the modern abortion era. From my perspective Kanye seems traumatized by the possibility he would have been aborted as well as his daughter. He adds a level of humanity to the issue that not even Trump does, and Trump is the President that has set the highest mark on this issue however low this bar may be. But it is dubious how much Kanye can feasibly accomplish on this issue. Will he appoint justices that will overturn Roe V Wade? Trump hasn’t. Will he unilaterally defund Planned Parenthood? This I think he could do, but his success will be determined by his willingness to defy the courts, like Abraham Lincoln.

On other issues, Kanye is shaky. I don’t agree with him on “criminal justice reform” and there doesn’t seem to be much of a platform. Furthermore, with Elon Musk on his team and some obscure pastor, it is foreseeable that celebrity culture will hold sway as it does presently.

Ultimately, what I want and what I believe you should seek as a Christian in politics is a return on investment. When our kingdom is not of this world, then we should treat the politics of this world as transactional, not transcendent. In politics we should aim to advance the interest of the Heavenly Realm.

Two criticisms of Kanye need addressing. First, I cannot take his campaign more seriously than he does. He has not done a good job of persuading me of his seriousness. Secondly, I have a hard time seeing someone who does not have himself or his family in order getting the country in order. This is not to judge a man who converted after much of these critiques were already in motion.

In conclusion, I do think there is a compelling case, on the basis of Christian liberty, to make in voting Kanye West for President. This does not mean he is the only candidate a case can be made for or that a case can be made for every candidate. But such are the times when Kanye West is a legitimate consideration for such a high office.

  1. No. I, and America got burned by voting for Jimmy Carter because he said he is a Christian. For the vast majority of you who are too young or ignorant of the disaster that was his Presidency, look up: gas lines OPEC, the Misery Index and the Iran hostage crisis. Also, the Federal Education Department was not nipped in the bud but expanded. And he did nothing about abortion before it became entrenched as a form of birth control. If Kanye had a solid platform and the political skills to implement it, I would consider him a viable candidate. He should abort his candidacy and support specific candidates that might be able to implement them. I further suggest he work at the LOCAL level where his celebrity can make a difference.

    1. I really appreciate your insight on Jimmy Carter. And I also agree that Kanye would be better suited at a local level, although he is far more influential at a national one outside of a political office. The bar for a compelling case is truly low in times like this, and most POTUS candidates I can name don’t meet it.

      1. The bar may be low, but the case is clear. There is only one viable candidate that will NOT increase the assault on your Rights as laid out in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. And Trump will continue to attempt to reduce the burden of government on your freedoms as well.

Trump is NOT a dictator, he is striving to work within the law as it stands. It is the “law” (aka judges) that are preventing him from INCREASING your personal freedoms and supporting everyone’s (born and unborn) Right to “life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.”

This “ad” is NOT paid for by any political entity and is my own opinion.

        1. I agree with you that an affirmative case can be made FOR Trump, and probably the best case. But the case is self defense. And that is about it.

Trump is letting these judges, some he appointed, shred the Constitution and is unwilling to defy them. The Citizenship Question was a clearly necessitated defiance, as the Court ruled the President is not in charge of his own administration. And with the DACA ruling, they ruled the President had to maintain an illegal executive order of a previous president. These rulings are illegal, but Trump is unwilling to check the power of the SCOTUS.

I wish your argument about Trump is true. For a while it was. But in 2020, Trump has done nothing to slow the encroachment on our freedom, instead providing governors ample cover for them to do so.

So looking ahead to November, a vote for Trump is really one to slow the agenda of Biden’s Regent, a self defense mitigation tactic but likely the best one we have in the upcoming election.

  2. Here’s a question (s) that I haven’t heard asked about Donald J. Trump.

Since the birth of Barron, what have been his moral and ethical actions? I think that is a good cut off point and would be a good place to consider if Trump had a “conversion experience.” (Not necessarily religious, but of lifestyle.) Then we can compare that to Kanye’s conversion point, before and after, with only the after being what should be measured.

I will stipulate that Trump’s style, as it always has been, has been Queens. Harsh, braggadocious, hyperbolic, and crass. He’s a narcissist as well. (I’ve worked for two, and one was a DJT clone, so I understand Trump’s style.) I understand it. Mine is unfortunately similar, but what matters is the FACTS and TRUTHS being stated, not the STYLE in which they are communicated.

We know Trump kept company with a range of women, but generally, he was a serial monogamist. I believe he took up with Ivana after Marla had cheated on him but before the divorce was final. What he did in private with the women he dated, I do NOT know.

He is NOT a racist. He has not been convicted of a crime. I’m not sure if he has even been formally charged with one. And that’s after over 50 years in business in New York City and around the world.

    He is a germaphobe.

    So, let’s ask again:

Since the birth of Barron, what have been Trump’s moral and ethical actions?

I’ve got some ideas, but I never really “followed” Trump’s career other than the snippets that would make it into the national news cycle. I’ve been busy focusing on raising a family for the last 20+ years.

    1. Sorry, I got Ivana and Marla backward. Ivana 1977 – 1992, Marla 1993 – 1999, Melania 2005 –

Let’s add that Barron was born on March 20, 2006.

Another point would be Trump’s upbringing and attendance at Norman Vincent Peale’s church. The Power of Positive Thinking.

His father’s politics were also interesting.

Also, you can probably find a video that shows Trump “Then and Now” which shows his positions on a range of topics from China, Trade, Taxes, Crime, etc. He has NOT changed his views over the years.

  3. I guess I should do some research on Kanye. I know very little about him and his life. I’m not even sure if he is a recent convert to Christianity or that he has merely shifted his focus to Christian music recently.

  4. No, Kanye should not be president for he has an untreated mental illness, bipolar, so he goes from depression to manic episodes, the latest manic episode where he became a candidate for president, exposed he wanted to abort his daughter with Kim Kardashian without her approval and uncovering what will most likely end up hurting his daughter when she discovers it, and then a barrage of strange ramblings including racist comments, and telling both Biden and Trump they should bow out of the race, and publicly announcing on Twitter he is seeking to divorce his wife. Kanye and his wife and children need our prayers, not a presidential run.

      1. You are most welcome. I read many of Kanye’s rants and he is in crisis and needs our prayers. I can’t imagine running for president so soon after becoming a Christian as I remember when I was a “baby Christian” and how much I thought I knew and now so many years later I realize what I don’t know, but what I do know now is that God our Father knows and can be totally trusted. That is why I don’t despair of all the horrible hatred and malice for President Trump, because I know God uses broken, fallen vessels so all will see and know that it is God our Father who is our miracle working God and can show his Glory through a strange man who God appointed to shake all that can be shaken so only Christ remains in America and she can come back to biblical values and being a constitutional republic under God, indivisible from God, with true liberty and justice from God our Father for all Americans, so we can be cities of light on a stand, be salt and light for the rest of this dark, broken, fallen world. God uses broken vessels to show His Glory as we can see Donald John Trump would have never been President without God appointing him for such a time as this; he is not a pastor or church leader, but a business leader, himself a “baby Christian” with a lot of growing and maturing to do, who I pray for God’s greater Wisdom to guide and the Holy Spirit to lead, as he attempts to lead America. I know he is willing, and now I pray he humbles himself and prays for America to repent and bring the Word and the Spirit, the Holy Bible back to every classroom, home, family, business, boardroom, and life. President Trump is the trumpet Americans need to heed the warning and repent and become prayer warriors and use our spiritual weapons against this present darkness; exposing the hidden darkness and agendas to destroy America as a Christian nation. God bless America. God bless President Trump and may God our Father strengthen, guide, anoint, gift, equip, edify, exhort, and prune any branches that need pruning. To God be the glory now and forever, Amen. Hallelujah!

  5. Dang, I’m hot this month. A SECOND epiphany. WWJS

    What Was Jesus’ Style when…

He turned the tables over in the Temple. Do you think He only did that once?

When He called the Scribes, Sadducees, and Pharisees “a brood of vipers”. Do you think that is the only unflattering thing He called them?

Jesus had a 3-year public ministry. We have maybe an hour a day (and that is a stretch, probably more like a week) of what He said and did during that time.

I’m not saying Jesus was as crass as Trump, but He certainly wasn’t mincing words when He spoke to and about the authorities of His day.

    Just some food for thought.
