Australian Big Eva continues defending evil government

Practically every English common law heritage country is given over following a massive embrace of secularism. America has thus been delayed in following their path because we have a much larger and more significant remnant of believers. Australia is certainly a case of you get what you voted for. These people gave up freedom a long time ago, and even in their waking moment they have no recourse in government and are running low of peaceable means of fighting back against abject tyranny.

In predictable fashion we see The Gospel Coalition conform to be like the world wherever they operate. We’ve seen this in Canada and Australia already. Additionally, the Evangelical Dark Web appears to be the leading online apologetics ministry against the Branch Covidian Cult. In Australia we see Romans 1 in action, specifically the closing remarks:

28 And just as they did not see fit to acknowledge God any longer, God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do those things which are not proper, 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, wickedness, greed, evil; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malice; they are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, arrogant, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 without understanding, untrustworthy, unloving, unmerciful; 32 and although they know the ordinance of God, that those who practice such things are worthy of death, they not only do the same, but also give hearty approval to those who practice them.

Part of why we are not called to love the world in 1 John 2:15 is because what God calls evil, the world calls good. So when the churches in Australia, Canada, and the United States lauded the authorities who imposed lockdowns, mask mandates, vaccine requirements, they were praising evil. To add to their sin, they were enforcing evil on their congregants.

In an article titled “Breaking the COVID Purity Spiral” by Tom Habib, an Anglican minister in who writes for TGC Australia, The Gospel Coalition once more legitimizes this evil. After beginning with a lengthy and irrelevant anecdote about a homosexual not being woke enough for knitting circles, Habib laments about the polarization in the church between what he calls a freedom versus safety debate.

I think that Australia is currently in the grips of a purity spiral. In fact, two purity spirals. Two communities have become fixated on implementing and demanding ever-increasing purity over a single value. The first community values freedom. The second community values safety. And like all purity spirals, these two values, ‘safety’ and ‘freedom’, have no upper limit, and no single agreed interpretation. Cue moral feeding frenzy. Each side seems to have a complete lack of respect and utter contempt for those who disagree with them. It is dividing friendships and families. And I’m concerned that it will divide our churches as well.

This issue has already divided and revealed churches. And this issue is no different than any other dichotomy that we see in Scripture. This is an issue of good versus evil, right versus wrong, and truth versus lie.

There is a false view in Big Eva that we are two seek a middle path, a third way between two extremes. Yet more often one of the sides isn’t biblical enough while the other is opposed to God and all His people. We see this in American politics. We saw this with Trump’s response to COVID where he did not represent us.

This has been precipitated by the issue of vaccine passports in church. Have you found yourself so drawn to the value of ‘freedom’ or ‘safety’ that you are mocking or separating yourself from other Christians? Do you find yourself rejecting nuance or middle-ground solutions in favour of an all-or-nothing approach? Are you seeking to impress others and gain kudos within your community by pushing to implement evermore extreme versions of your value? If so, you may be falling into a purity spiral. And it can split your church.

Yes. Yes. Yes. Whatever. The problem in the church is that we are not catechizing our people to hold Biblical worldviews in all areas of their lives. Instead we freely allow people to compartmentalize faith from politics, from education, and from culture. This has proven to be an abysmal failure. And now we are being taking over by Branch Covidians who are abusing their ecclesiastical authority.

The solution Habib posits is “love.” And while he wants it to sound Biblical, he is really positing situational ethics and channeling his inner Rose Tico.

If we want to love one another, we must love God, and do that by obeying his commandments. Stop calling evil good and repent.

  1. All Daniel had to do was close the window or wait to pray another time. He must have been in a purity spiral!
