John Piper lies, peddles Big Pharma narrative

As usual, John Piper is showing up late on an issue, writing a lot but saying very little, and dressing bad unbiblical arguments in orthodox explanations of the text. Previous examples include voting Democrat and Critical Race Theory. Perhaps it’s too early to say whether John Piper is a false teacher or not, but he’s consistently bad on cultural issues whether it be voting, guns, or vaccines.

John Piper penned an article over on Desiring God titled, A Reason to Be Vaccinated: Freedom. While this article is not the carrot stick motivation that the headline implies, it is as manipulative and similarly deceitful.

My aim in this article is to encourage Christians to be vaccinated, if they can do so with a good conscience and judicious medical warrant.

The people I have especially in view are those who are not vaccinated because of fear of being out of step with people they respect, and in step with people they don’t admire. My message to them is simple: You are free.

So, I am not talking directly to everybody. If the shoe fits, put it on, check your conscience, consult your doctor, and go get vaccinated. If it doesn’t, go tearfully and cheerfully on your way.

John Piper states that he targets a particular audience. There are four types of people. There are those who want the vaccine and got it. There are those who don’t want the vaccine and aren’t getting it. Then there are those who don’t want the vaccine and are being pressured into taking it. And last but least, there are those who want to take the vaccine but are being pressured not to. John Piper claims he is writing for this small audience, however, he is more likely trying to convince the unvaccinated that this is them.

Before I get to the biblical argument for radical freedom, consider a few statistics that fuel the fire over which this article was cooked.

• “Nearly all COVID-19 deaths in the U.S. are now in people who weren’t vaccinated. . . . From May [2021] . . . infections in fully vaccinated people accounted for fewer than 1,200 of more than 107,000 COVID-19 hospitalizations. That’s about 1.1%. And only about 150 of the more than 18,000 COVID-19 deaths in May were in fully vaccinated people. That translates to about 0.8%” (Associated Press).

• Indiana “saw 3,801 coronavirus deaths between [Jan. 18, 2021,] and Sept. 16 — 94% of them unvaccinated. . . . 97.9% of Hoosiers younger than 65 who died were unvaccinated” (Evansville Courier and Press).

• In Montana, “from February 2021 to September 2021, . . . 89.5% of the cases, 88.6% of hospitalizations, and 83.5% of the deaths were among people who were not fully vaccinated, including those not yet eligible for vaccination” (KRTV — Great Falls).

• “More than 95% of the 443 people under age 60 who have died from COVID-19 in Kentucky since early July were unvaccinated” (Lexington Herald-Leader).

• The Pennsylvania Department of Health reports that between January 1 and October 4, 2021, “93 percent of COVID-19-related deaths were in unvaccinated or not fully vaccinated people” (FOX43).

There is a commonality in this data, and that is all this data is prior to September which means it does not account for the seasonal Delta wave that the Southern states experienced that is moving north. He cites data from Montana, Indiana, and Pennsylvania which was all prior to their seasonal delta wave. Piper is cherry picking favorable data, and leaving out the vaccine’s failures in Israel and elsewhere in this country.

My point is this: Don’t be enslaved by fear of man. Don’t be enslaved by the fear of breaking ranks with ideological allies. The old name for this is peer pressure. You are free.

• You have considered the risk of COVID as you watch hundreds of thousands of people die.
• You have considered the short- and long-term risks of the vaccines as you watch millions get the shots.
• You have compared the frequency of hospitalizations and deaths of those with and without vaccines.
• You have thought hard about the implications of fetal cell lines in the production and testing of the vaccines.
• You have rejoiced at the increasing evidence that natural immunity, developed after recovering from COVID, is as effective as vaccination immunity.
• You have pondered the likelihood and unlikelihood of conspiratorial conjectures

John Piper invokes the same peer pressure that he claims he’s writing against as well as uses fear to motivate the individual. Americans died with COVID but these same Americans were largely denied early and effective treatment options, which makes doctors increasingly culpable for their deaths.

Piper further lies presupposing that the we needed studies to confirm that natural immunity works just as well as artificial immunity. This is anti-scientific, and simply not what’s going on. Natural immunity has proved superior to artificial immunity in every study, especially with regards to Delta, which Piper does not account for at all in his data gathering.

Conclusion

At best, John Piper is an uninformed NPC. At worst he joins the multitudes peddling the Big Pharma narrative.
