Big Eva’s Effeminate Response To Canada’s New Law

When will Canadian Big Eva come to grips with the reality of their situation? The government of Canada is further down the Marxist hole than the United States with five leftwing political parties vying for power. They imposed strict lockdowns on the masses throughout 2020 and 2021 and arrested faithful members of the brethren for their obedience to Christ in opposition to their government.

Thus far, Big Eva has regarded the likes of James Coates with contempt, especially Paul Carter of Canadian Gospel Coalition. Carter wrote that Coates religious rights were not being violated.

Obviously tyrannical lockdowns were not enough to get Big Eva to raise a caution flag anywhere. However, Bill C-4, a ban on so called “conversion therapy” raises objections from Big Eva about overreaching government authority. Paul Carter initially wrote “We’re Not in Kansas Anymore: Reflections on the passage of Bill C-4” on December 8th, implying that only now has a Rubicon been crossed. Wyatt Graham wrote “A Threat to Ministry in Canada” on December 13th on the US Gospel Coalition website. Notice both headlines are equally applicable to lockdowns. Graham explains:

Conversion therapy refers to converting a LGBTQ person into a cisgender person. The bill says conversion therapy “means a practice, treatment or service designed to”:

  • change a person’s sexual orientation to heterosexual;
  • change a person’s gender identity to cisgender;
  • change a person’s gender expression so that it conforms to the sex assigned to the person at birth;
  • repress or reduce non-heterosexual attraction or sexual behaviour;
  • repress a person’s non-cisgender gender identity; or
  • repress or reduce a person’s gender expression that does not conform to the sex assigned to the person at birth.

Basically, being a parent that takes actionable steps against say their son becoming a transvestite or homosexual is illegal. However the obvious fact of Bill C-4 is that grooming children to become homosexuals or transvestites is completely legal.

I note—I hope not too cynically—that Bill C-4 explicitly bans changing one’s expression to “cisgender” or “hereterosexual” or “to the sex assigned to the person at birth” but not the opposite. The language allows for conversion from heterosexual expression to an LGBTQ expression. I have no doubt that LGBTQ persons will continue to advertise and promote their gender expressions.

This is by designed and Graham fails to substantively call this agenda out. He goes on to suggest that local governments will have a field day enforcing this law.

Lawyers may show Bill C-4 only applies to its intended target—coercive techniques. But Bill C-4 may at the municipal level be used as justification to target good-faith groups and people that are not being coercive.

Paul Carter is more naïve than his colleague.

At some point thereafter it will likely end up before the courts subject to a constitutional challenge. Given the robust provisions of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms with respect to religious belief and expression, it may be expected that the language and breadth of the bill will be found to exceed what is permitted by law.

Carter still believes Canadians have freedom of religion after the last two years. He is also optimistic that the courts will reign the law in.

Christians should be praying for and working towards a better version of this legislation with the ultimate goal of protecting all people from abusive and coercive practices while at the same time protecting the rights of parents and pastors to read, teach and commend what the Bible has to say about sex and gender.

Christians should not be working towards any common ground with this legislation. This is comparable to the Equality Act.

Firstly, Christians should avoid over reaction. We mustn’t even appear to be in favour of abusive and coercive practices. Christians do not resort to strong arm tactics. We speak, we love, we model, we commend, we pray. That is our playbook. Conversion therapy should never have been a tool in anyone’s toolbox in the first place. We must avoid over stating our concerns and we must avoid even the appearance of indifference toward people who have suffered under these treatments. We must be narrow and specific with respect to our concerns with Bill C-4.

Paul Carter peddles the media hype about what is in Christians circles called reparative therapy. By definition helping a transvestite detransition or counseling a homosexual to repent is conversion therapy. For Paul Carter to say this should never be in a Christian’s playbook is unbiblical.

Secondly, we must avoid trimming our sails. I’ve already heard pastors talking about no longer making their sermons available online and no longer broadcasting worship services. This would place the elderly, the sick and the stranger outside the sound of the Gospel! There may be a place for an offline training event; there may be wisdom in providing some “closed door counsel” to the congregation as to how to engage on these matters, but the Gospel must remain public. If we must suffer for preaching the whole counsel of God, then so be it.

Paul Carter’s advice here is also unhelpful. It is increasingly obvious that the church cannot function under the tyrannical Canadian government, and must go underground. Of course this would hurt the Gospel Coalition Canada’s bottom line, but the reality is Canada has the state religion of Branch Covidianism and Marxism. The church in Canada is in desperate need of structural reform, a need Big Eva does not acknowledge. If they are to preach the full counsel of God, it will likely have to be person by person and house by house.

The American church should take note. Our Big Eva would be just as inept if our culture is given over as far as Canada. Moreover in swaths of the country there proved to be no reliable churches when lockdowns persisted. The future of the American church may too be less institutional.
