There is much that can be said regarding the decline of Texas over the years. When it comes to elections, the voters in Texas were perfectly fine saying “Thank you, may I have another!” as they obediently reelected their incumbents by massive margins. Through absence at the polls—not fraud—globalist RINO’s like Dan Crenshaw won their primaries while lockdown tyrant and corporatist Greg Abbott dominated his contested primary. Yet when it came to the Texas GOP convention, the conservatives showed up in droves.
Much Needed Confrontation
It is always a pleasant sight when GOP politicians receive public flak from their constituents. It is a sign that the people are not whoring after their politicians to save America nor are they idols on a pedestal. Contrary to what Adam Kinzinger told Russell Moore, the politicians should fear their voters.
At the convention, Senator John Cornyn was viciously booed on the convention floor because of his recent support for gun control. Nevermind his abysmal 54% liberty score, his support for Ukraine’s war, and general propensity for federal spending. In the aftermath of the convention, Cornyn would claim that he stood up to the mob. Unfortunately, Senator Cornyn was reelected in the 2020 cycle, so voters in Texas will unlikely remember these moments come 2026 when he begs their support to save America once again.
Conservative comedian Alex Stein made headway in confronting Ted Cruz for being a globalist who is more concerned with Ukraine’s borders than Texas’s. As Stein was being shoved away from Cruz, who was signing books, he harangued the senator for his untimely vacation to Cancun during the 2021 blackouts. Admittedly, this was a cheap shot as a senator has little responsibility for failures in a state power grid, but sure enough, there is plenty of reason to for ire towards Cruz relating to his January 6 comments and general silence on Covid tyranny.
Stein also confronted Dan Crenshaw for being a globalist where he was more violently shoved away by Crenshaw’s security personnel.
It is no wonder Greg Abbott kept a low profile, considering his ineptitude in confronting transgenderism and his covid tyranny in 2020.
On Homosexuality
While the videos make waves circulating on social media, it cannot be forgotten that the delegates to the Texas GOP convention passed a conservative platform.
Item 143 addressed the issue of homosexuality
143. Homosexuality: Homosexuality is an abnormal lifestyle choice. We believe there should be no granting of special legal entitlements or creation of special status for homosexual behavior, regardless of state of origin, and we oppose any criminal or civil penalties against those who oppose homosexuality out of faith, conviction, or belief in traditional values. No one should be granted special legal status based on their LGBTQ+ identification.
Within their platform, the Texas GOP has declared homosexuality an abnormal lifestyle undeserving of special legal protections or privileges. That is based! The subsequent items would further condemn the medical transgendering of children, taxpayer funded sex change, while supporting various reparative therapeutic practices, like Sexual Orientation Change Efforts (derisively called Gay Conversion Therapy) that other states have outlawed.
The Texas GOP has taken a stand on this issue, which is more than can be said of the resolutions passed by the SBC which soften language condemning homosexuality, abortion, and pedophilia. The convention even banned the pro-homo Log Cabin Republicans from having a booth.
Likewise, pornography was labeled a health crisis under addictive substances with Item 149 and 151. Unlike the Texas GOP (and likely other states), the SBC has not passed a resolution calling pornography a public health crisis, last addressing the issue in 2015 to discuss rampancy on the internet.
On Covid Tyranny
The platform condemns the practices of lockdowns and mandates in various sections, which Greg Abbott will ignore should the pressure ever resurges for lockdowns. They emphasize the need to pass the Texas Medical Practice Act (item 153) which would prohibit medical boards from retaliating against physicians for prescribing medication to their patients. Think Ivermectin. Laws as such should be passed in every state.
On Abortion
The Texas GOP codified its desire for the complete abolition of abortion. Unfortunately, they would not seek to label the mother as a murderer under the law. This is not unlike their Heartbeat Law, where excluding the mother from civil penalty would enable deeper pockets to be subject to civil liability. In the aftermath of a Roe overturn, there might be zero abortion factories in Texas, so the shift will naturally focus to medication and punishing those who assist women traveling state lines.
Texas GOP Resolutions
Resolution 1 for the Texas GOP convention was a condemnation of the 2020 election and its outcome.
2020 Election: We believe that the 2020 election violated Article 1 and 2 of the US Constitution, that various secretaries of state illegally circumvented their state legislatures in conducting their elections in multiple ways, including by allowing ballots to be received after November 3, 2020. We believe that substantial election fraud in key metropolitan areas significantly affected the results in five key states in favor of Joseph Robinette Biden Jr.
The resolution would go on to call for election integrity reforms consistent with several items in the platform. Most establishment types have moved on from the 2020 election as it remains too hot to touch, despite public opinion on 2020 election skepticism rising and an increasing percentage of Americans waking up to January 6. Majority of Republicans, exceeding 80% depending on the poll, believe the election was definitely stolen. Unsurprisingly, majority of Team GOP is reticent to take up the issue despite widespread support in the base for candidates that do, like Mastriano or Kari Lake.
Resolution 2 was a condemnation of the US Senate’s ongoing gun control efforts, which directly rebuked John Cornyn by name, along with other senators. This was a shot across the bow for the senator by his own party. Boldness against the establishment is always a plus.
Conclusion
Overall, this is a strong platform that demonstrates a considerable shift to the right from 2016. On a national level, the 2016 GOP platform was rather admirable despite all the special interest issues and filler items it contains. It contained a call to overturn Obergefell and defend marriage. This is not to say the politicians will actively uphold this platform, but perhaps it reflects the work of future officeholders in Texas.
Unlike the SBC, when conservatives showed up to the Texas GOP convention, they meant business. This is not to say that political parties are equal to a religious denomination, but it cannot be denied that there were Christians involved in the creation of this partisan platform. There is a clear difference between an institution where one can reform from within versus one that has been completely overtaken. Take notes.
One Response
All the more reason for third parties, or to write off politics entirely. There’s a reason based people are walking away from the GOP, and granola churches.
