In the middle of the night, Rick Warren found himself responding to a four year old tweet by Tom Ascol in order to obfuscate the issue of egalitarianism and his ordination of females into the pastorate.
Rick Warren early on endorsed Bart Barber for president of the SBC. This came after his church ordained women in opposition to the Baptist Faith and Message 2000. Tom Ascol was resoundingly defeated in the Annual Southern Baptist Convention, representing the conservative block of the SBC who opposed Saddleback Church’s continued fellowship in the convention.
So in the middle of the night, 2:45 am on the west coast, Rick Warren tweeted at Tom Ascol to defend his adherence to the inerrancy of Scripture.
Of course when Rick Warren ordained women, it was not the inerrancy of Scripture he denied as much as it was the authority of Scripture that his church denied. They have since hired a replacement pastor that openly copastors with his wife. Andy Wood is also compromised on the issue of homosexuality.
Much like at the Southern Baptist Convention, Rick Warren continually feels the need to talk about himself, but going back four years raises the question as to how desperate Warren is to defend his own reputation.
