Theologically Sound. Culturally Relevant.

Compromise Today

Christianity Today Writes 1100 Word Clickbait About Whether Jesus Wore Underwear

The most prominent Christian news gathering websites are largely compromised, of which, Christianity Today is a chief amongst the them. Christianity Today fashions itself as a journalistic bastion, yet published a headline that was disrespectful towards our savior because it was used to promote a female seminary graduate’s self-indulgence. In 1151 words, the question of whether Jesus wore underwear is not answered. Instead the author uses this headline to promote her memoir.

One would think that an article titled “Does Jesus Wear Undies?” would proceed to answer the question. The subtitle is “My kids ask the darndest theological questions—putting my seminary degree to the test.” This would provide the basis for a story behind the question and subsequent answer. This would at least treat our Savior with reverence as to answer a historical/cultural question. Instead, the name of Jesus is invoked for clickbait about how a female seminary graduate is constantly unable to answer the questions of her children.

This is a Buzzfeed level of clickbait, as an honest headline would not have garnered so much attention. Earlier this month, Russell Moore was announced to become the Editor-In-Chief of Christianity Today, a change that would take effect next month. It’s a wonder if this style of clickbait will be furthered under a Moore regime.

But I suppose only the discernment bloggers have “TMZ style” headlines.
