Did Ron DeSantis break the internet, or did he stumble out the gate? The answer largely depends on how much you support him. The first of its kind, Ron DeSantis announced the other day that he intended to use Twitter Spaces and an interview with Elon Musk to announce his candidacy. Twitter Spaces is an audio chatroom platform on Twitter.
Perhaps it was an odd choice to do the audio format as opposed to livestreaming on Twitter, but the allure of having Elon Musk was perhaps to strategic to pass up. When the hour finally arrived, Musk’s Space crashed by the sheer volume of users trying to access the announcement. Over half a million users attempted to gain access to the announcement with very few succeeding as even when in the space, the audio was missing. The sheer demand for this event overwhelmed Twitter’s capacity.

Minutes to the announcement, DeSantis tweeted his announcement video which focused on an American comeback. After the debacle with Elon Musk, Ron DeSanits was in a stream doing Q&A with prominent media figures including Steve Deace, Chris Rufo, and Dana Loesch. This Twitter Space had over 300K live listeners.
Team DeSantis then pivoted from the successful interview to fundraising, seeing if they can “break WinRed.”
The Evangelical votes seems rather split on this primary. Whereas many are quick to choose either Trump or DeSantis, prominent Big Eva figures have wondering eyes towards longshots like Tim Scott, Mike Pence, and Nikki Haley. One thing is for certain, this race is just beginning.
