Christian Man Defaces Satanic Statue In Iowa State Capitol

The Satanic Temple display at the Iowa State Capitol has become a national controversy over whether such a display should be allowed, or unmolested, in a government building. The Iowa state legislature allows for displays to be done on a two-week basis. But the statue was naught to last the full two weeks as a Christian man named Michael Cassidy took action and toppled the statue, decapitated it, and placed the head in a garbage can. The Republic Sentinal broke the story.

According to Ben Zeisloft of the Sentinal:

Cassidy said in comments exclusively provided to The Sentinel that he destroyed the shrine on Thursday in order to “awaken Christians to the anti-Christian acts promoted by our government.”

“The world may tell Christians to submissively accept the legitimization of Satan, but none of the founders would have considered government sanction of Satanic altars inside Capitol buildings as protected by the First Amendment,” Cassidy told The Sentinel. “Anti-Christian values have steadily been mainstreamed more and more in recent decades, and Christians have largely acted like the proverbial frog in the boiling pot of water.”

Cassidy turned himself into police officers present in the Iowa Capitol, who confirmed that the Satanic Temple of Iowa desires to press charges. The Sentinel obtained a complaint and affidavit which said Cassidy was charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief.

“I saw this blasphemous statue and was outraged,” Cassidy continued. “My conscience is held captive to the word of God, not to bureaucratic decree. And so I acted.”

Cassidy turned himself in to the police who charged him with a misdemeanor. A crowdfunding campaign was organized for his legal defense. The goal of $20000 was exceeded in the first three hours.

Michael Cassidy served as a Navy pilot and works as a flight instructor. Cassidy isn’t a newcomer to politics or standing up for his beliefs. In 2022, he ran for Congress only to lose the primary runoff election with the weight of Kevin McCarthy working against him.

The actions of Michael Cassidy were lauded by Christians online as an example of confronting idolatry.

  1. “Well, you see your honor, chattel slavery and racism are satanic, and he’s the one behind all of it, so it’s only right that the statue had to be taken down like all the others.”

Couldn’t hardly argue with that defense. It’s certainly true.

I wonder if BLM will speak out in his defense – won’t be holding my breath.
