Last week, Pope Francis made some headlines by stating that Ukraine should have the “courage of the white flag.” This contrasts nicely with Big Eva calling for more US tax dollars to fund Ukraine. Richard Land used to be head of the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention before Russell Moore, and his right-hand soy-face, Daniel Darling, is perhaps the next Russell Moore. These two have been leading voices in Big Eva, and Land wrote a piece in Christian Post last week calling for more aid.
The Papal Perspective
Pope Francis has a dismal view on Ukraine’s prospects:
“When you see that you are defeated, that things are not going well, you have to have the courage to negotiate,” he said. “Negotiations are never a surrender.”
The pope also reminded people that some countries have offered to act as mediators in the conflict.
The Pope made these comments knowing that they would be poorly received. Perhaps Ukraine’s defeat at Avdeevka is the driving event behind this. Ukraine has yet to stabilize its line following its disorderly withdrawal from the city it held for nine years in the war.
The Big Eva Perspective
Richard Land wrote an article titled, “Ukraine: America’s honor and world peace are at stake!“
In addition, for most of that post-World War II period, the really bad guys who were up to really bad things had to ask themselves, “if we do this, will the Americans come?” When the evil-doers don’t have to ask that question, really bad things happen to the weak and vulnerable and the world becomes a much more dangerous place.Â
Most Americans are uncomfortable with this role as the world’s policeman. However, time and again we have seen what happens when Americans do not shoulder this responsibility. Even our closest allies most often will not arouse themselves to action unless America takes the lead. Back in the 1990’s, even our NATO allies would not intervene to stop genocide in Bosnia on their own continent until President Clinton and the United States led the charge.Â
For multiple millions of people around the world whether America keeps promises and commitments is a life and death issue. Nowhere is this more vividly illustrated than in the nation of Ukraine. The Ukrainian people have been under invasive attack by the totalitarian Russian bear on and off for almost a decade.
I’m surprised that this article contained no Hitler references (though WW2 is referenced as a time). But instead Land celebrates the US bombing of Serbians over a border dispute.
America’s honor and the world’s peace are at stake. Will America keep her word to Ukraine? I hope you will join me in praying that we will. Our honor and the peace of the world are at stake.
The jingoism calling for an escalation of a foreign war in the name of peace is an inconsistency to behold. This is how world wars start.
The rare moment of rational comments from a Pope that affirmed blessing gay couples stands in contrast to the delusional Big Eva liberals who cling to their post-war consensus.
