JD Greear’s Spanish Pastor Goes Anti-ICE For Advent

Every year, going into the Christmas season, liberals will trot out the “Jesus was a refugee” card to justify mass immigration and multiculturalism. There are innumerable examples of this to pull from, but a most notable example would be the hippie Jesus ad campaign, He Gets Us. Other organizations rely on this narrative because they actively facilitate immigration into the country, which would include the SBC’s SEND Relief, the LCMS/ELCA’s Lutheran Immigrant Refugee Service (LIRS), and World Relief, whose Afghan refugee murdered a National Guard in Washington DC. The subversion of Christianity to support mass immigration is always justified by taking Scripture out of context, often using the Christmas narrative.

This year, Raudel Hernandez, the Spanish Pastor at Summit Church, has elected to ignite the debate. The fact that Summit has a Spanish pastor is itself a sign of cultural decay, that a church is functionally embracing the demographic displacement of Americans. Summit Church is the home of JD Greear. Greear is a notoriously woke pastor whose service as Southern Baptist president peddled the BLM narratives through Resolution 9 while his political theology is one of third-wayism. He was a force against the Mike Law Amendment, fighting for egalitarianism in the Southern Baptist Convention. Though he walked back the quote about the bible whispering about homosexuality, the very fact that he uttered the words indicates weakness on the issue.

Raudel Hernandez used a three-minute Facebook reel make the subversive case that Jesus was a refugee.

I wish I had this on this day with everything that is happening. The Bible does not hide the tasteless of this world. We live in a broken world, and that gives us testimony that we were made for a better world. And there is something about the story of Christmas that many people do not tell. After Jesus was born, Joseph, the stepfather of Jesus, had to emigrate in the middle of the night to another country because agents of the government of Herod were looking to kill Jesus. And in the middle of the night, he leaves with Jesus and Mary from Jerusalem to Egypt, which is very far, more than 450 miles. [Emphasis Added]

Much of the subversion is in the initial frame of the video. For starters, acting as if nobody discusses Herod at Christmas is nonsense as Herod and the Magi are integral to the narrative. Every serious church will mention it and read the passages.

Second, he then introduces the notion that the Holy Family had to emigrate to another country. In modern parlance, this is a deceptive statement that ignores the fact that Egypt and Judea were both provinces under Roman jurisdiction, making the journey more akin to leaving New York for Florida than the immigrant traveling by foot through Central America to the Southern Border. There was nothing unlawful about their travels, and likely, they were residing with Egyptian Jews and, contrary to the depictions of Dallas Jenkins, the sojourn in Egypt was brief. This would make it more equivalent to a tourist visa than asylum.

Third, the use of the phrase “agents of Herod’s government” subversively applies the modern language of government agencies to the biblical text. In the current political scene, the left is actively trying to frame agents of ICE as “abducting” innocent people who are not actually innocent but are violators of the law and otherwise unwanted persons in the US. Obviously, the metaphorical language conveys that Trump is Herod. Eisegesis is when one inserts either themselves or the reader into the text, and interpreting the Christmas story and likening one’s situation to that of Joseph fleeing from government agents is subversive teaching.

One of the biggest battles of 2025 has been the Church’s subversion on the issue of immigration, which really erupted early in the year as government money was suspended towards these NGOs. With reports that ICE has taken a greater interest in North Carolina, there are churches that are actively supporting evasion and deception of law enforcement. This would include College Park Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC, a member of the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, which held a training seminar on evading to law enforcement.

These treasonous acts have consequences. Laken Riley was murdered because of an illegal, one of many victims of illegal crime, which would be a statistically greater share if not for the black community. The importation of Haitians was a blight on Springfield, OH and so too MS-13 into the DC metro. Then there are the hidden costs like higher insurance rates, higher rent from increased demand, degraded schools from children who cannot speak or read English, and outright fraud committed by immigrant groups like the Somali’s. And legal immigration, being worse than illegal, is depriving Americans of entry level jobs via the H1B program. In Europe, the migrant rape gangs are typically second generation immigrants, which would not occur if not for mass immigration of the parents. Support for immigration is hatred for one’s countrymen.

Many so-called Christians will be the greatest subverters on the issue of mass deportations. They will help fake refugees lie on their paperwork or avoid law enforcement. They will hand out free money and free goodies, which is rewarding their behavior (moral hazard). Contrary to the parable, they will claim they are being Good Samaritans, which does not teach that one must help the foreigner to the detriment of their countrymen. Beware of they who will wear crosses around their necks as they sell out the country to foreigners.
