Polygamist Pastor Israel Ford Accused Of Sexual Abuse By Stepdaughter

Israel Ford wanted a viral sermon about two wives. He got a stepdaughter naming him a predator instead.

Ford is the self-styled prophet of LifeWorks Church in the Cleveland suburbs. He founded the place in 2009 with his wife Lydia, who co-pastors beside him and talks like a press secretary for his appetites. On October 25, she stood in front of the congregation and introduced Minister Shakayla Talley as her “sister in marriage.” Ford posted the clip himself. “As a nation we have been taught that a man should have only one wife only. This is unbiblical.” He told anyone who walked that they could laugh about it in Heaven.

Heaven is not laughing. Kourtney Jones, Lydia’s daughter, went on Facebook two days later and said the man now collecting applause for extra wives sexually abused her from age 12 until she fled the house at 17.

What Jones Says Happened

Jones and her twin sister, Kayce White, were 11 when Lydia married Ford in June 2013. The courtship lasted nine months. Both adults were still married to other people while they dated. That is not a prophetic origin story. That is adultery with a countdown clock. According to Jones:

For 6 years I have carried these secrets, and I chose not to tell. Partly because I never felt fully ready to share, but a small part wanted to protect my mother. Though she is not innocent, I saw him slowly drain the life from her. My mother was smart, caring, independent, and strong willed. She was raised to rely on herself, and question anything and anyone that went against the Word of God. In June of 2013 she married Israel Ford. After only 9 months of dating, dating done during her marriage to her second husband (Israel was still married as well, he was not innocent in this). My sister and I were 11 years old.

I was 12 years old when he started to show sexual interest in me. He would comment on my body, tell me how beautiful I would be as an adult. It started so small, walking the line of (what I thought to be) admiration and inappropriate. He would lay in my bed with me when I took naps. He would kiss me and force me to tell him I loved him.

At 13 it progressed much more. He would sneak into my room at night and lay with me, only in underwear. He would ask me about sex and what I wanted in a man. He would wake me up and force me to touch him. I would freeze up, and dissociate. I lived in my

mind because I couldn’t make sense of what I was dealing with. I would say horrible things to him, in the hopes to make him feel bad. He ended up telling me he wanted me to say horrible things, so he could feel bad and stop. He knew it was wrong and he admitted it multiple times.

When I was 15 my grandmother got into a car accident. She was rushed to the hospital and Israel convinced my mother and sister to stay overnight with her. I knew what was waiting for me at home. That was the first time he attempted to rape me. I fought so hard, I kicked I screamed, I scratched. All while he told me to shut up and stop screaming. How I needed it. That HE needed it. I said horrible things. Told him he wasn’t right to be a pastor, that he was sick in the head, that he was a predator, a pedophile. He enjoyed it. Enjoyed my screams. Enjoyed the fight. I made it out that night, I was lucky to be younger and stronger. But that day changed everything for me.

He became more aggressive. More possessive. He would fight me for what seemed like hours in the middle of the night. I would call my friends in tears, and they would pray with me. And tell me it would be over eventually. He would touch me when others weren’t looking. Even in church, with my own mother just feet away.

I don’t know why I never screamed. What stopped me from telling all those years. He had completely isolated us from our family. Befriended our friends and forced us to cut off the ones who didn’t like him. He would tell us we wouldn’t make it to heaven without him. That he wished my father never existed so he could raise us how he wanted. He would pervert our conversations, constantly brining up his and my mother’s sex life. He would always ask us about boys, about our bodies, about our thoughts.

The abuse continued until I was 17, when I left the house, and by the grace of God I never returned. 2 years later I decided to share with my sister the details of what I went through, more details than I have time to share at this moment. When confronted, my mother revealed that Israel had told her many lies over the years. Saying I was too touchy with him, that I was attracted to him, the she needed to “watch out” for me. He knew what he’d done was wrong and he set me up to look like a liar. And my mother, my own

flesh and blood believed him. I have not spoken to my mother in 6 years. For my health and my safety. But they have lit up the platform that will host their own demise.

These are allegations. They have not been tried as a sex crime. They also did not appear in a vacuum.

The Conviction He Already Has

Ford already lost in court over a stepdaughter. In 2018 he beat then-17-year-old K.C., identified in the record as his stepdaughter. She testified that “whoopings” in that house meant lying across the bed, taking her pants off, and getting struck with a belt. After she told her mother Ford was texting his ex-wife, he put her on the ground with his knee on her neck, slammed her into a wall, threw her around the living room, beat her with a belt, and pulled her hair. He told her not to go to school the next day so she would not talk to teachers. Bruises were still visible three days later.

Ford’s defense was that he was “administering parental discipline.” An Ohio jury convicted him of first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence. The judge said it went beyond corporal punishment. The Eighth District Court of Appeals affirmed it. The same case sat inside a 15-count joint indictment against Israel and Lydia that also covered robbery and assault involving another woman, Latesha McFarland. They pleaded guilty to several of those counts. They beat the child-endangerment charges at trial.

So the man now selling polygamy as recovered biblical truth has a domestic violence conviction for beating a teenage girl in his house, a wife who helped run the house, and a second stepdaughter now accusing him of years of sexual abuse that started when she was 12. Ford and Lydia have denied Jones’s sex-abuse claims to The Shade Room. Denial is not a rebuttal. It is the minimum a man in his position always says.

He Called His New Wife A Spiritual Daughter

The polygamy pitch collapsed on contact with a microphone. Ford went on Larry Reid Live with both women to defend the arrangement. Asked about the New Testament requirement that a bishop be the husband of one wife, he said it does not apply because he is not a bishop or a deacon. Asked what it was like for Shakayla to go from his “spiritual daughter” to his “spiritual wife,” he said it was “pretty easy.” Asked if his wives could take another husband, he said no. “If they wanted another husband, then they don’t want me.”

Read that sequence again. He took a woman the room already knew as a spiritual daughter, made her a second wife, claimed the pastoral qualification texts do not bind him, and reserved polygamy as a male privilege. Lydia did the introduction. Shakayla said it was the will of God. Ford said the cat was out of the bag and that he would not choose pleasing man over “what God has revealed.”

What God has revealed is not a second marriage bed for a man who cannot keep his hands off the household. 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1 require an overseer to be the husband of one wife, sober, self-controlled, and a man who manages his own household well. Ford fails the test on every clause. He is not recovering an “unpopular truth.” He is carving out an exemption for lust and calling the exemption prophecy.

Polygamy Is Concupiscence With A Proof Text

The Christian case against polygamy is not Victorian embarrassment. It is the creation ideal and a requirement to be in any church office.

Modern polygamy revivalists always run the same play. They point at Abraham, ignore the New Testament household codes, and then discover that “God revealed” they get more women. The motive is not fruitfulness. It is not recovering some lost Hebraic order. It is sexual immorality looking for a pulpit. A man who needs two wives is a man who will not be satisfied with one. A man who needs to announce it on Instagram is a man who wants the congregation to applaud his lack of self-control.

Ford made the motive obvious. He did not take a second wife in some quiet, shamefaced arrangement on the frontier. He had his first wife market the new one to the church. He called monogamy unbiblical. He said the one-wife standard is for bishops, which he is not, while still demanding the titles prophet, pastor, and household priest. He converted a “spiritual daughter” into a bedmate and called the conversion easy.

Polygamy also builds the exact house where abuse hides. Multiple women under one man’s “revelation.” Children told they will not reach heaven without him. Isolation from relatives who smell the rot. Punishments that require a teenage girl to take her pants off for a belt. A mother trained to believe the prophet over her own daughter. Jones says Ford cut the family off from anyone who disliked him. That is how these systems work. Extra wives are not a covering. They are a harem with church vocabulary, and the children in the house become inventory.

The internet treated the announcement like a freak show because it is one. The jokes missed the point. The point is a man using the Bible to authorize an expanded sexual field, then acting shocked when a stepdaughter describes what that field already cost her. Jones said the attention is exactly what he wanted. She is right about the polygamy clip. She is also the reason the clip will not stay a joke.

If Ford is innocent of Jones’s specific claims, he can say so with records, dates, and a church that stops calling him prophet until the matter is examined. What he cannot do is hide behind Genesis while failing 1 Timothy, beating a 17-year-old, and collecting wives from the women already under his teaching. Polygamy in this story is not a misunderstood doctrine. It is the public face of a private appetite. The stepdaughter named the appetite. The conviction already showed the violence. The second wife is just the part he was willing to livestream.
