With the Democratic embrace of third-world Marxism, the right has to reckon with why Zohran Mamdani is a compelling political force. Matt Walsh released a video responding to the crisis of rising grocery prices, only to be attacked by many neocons for daring to address the plight of working-class Americans with a message other than “pull yourself up by the bootstraps.”
To 4.3 million views, Walsh posted:
Grocery prices are insane. They’re still rising. Addressing this problem should be the number one priority of every elected leader. End the stupid foreign wars and focus on this issue. It’s one of the main reasons socialists are gaining power.
Additionally, Andrew Klovet added to the discourse with a burrito based anecdote.
One of our TPUSA college students gave me his take on affordability:
“A burrito shouldn’t cost $20.”
Yeah, a lot of this is a hangover from Covid and Biden-era inflation, but the lived experience is the same: It just feels like basic things cost too much.
Enter Joel Berry, the former managing editor for the Babylon Bee who has joined with Jeremy Boreing’s media venture to create a hypocrisy-driven podcast peddling Israeli talking points. The theme of the Jeremy Boreing podcast would showcase itself as Berry responded to the burrito crisis:
Last night, my wife made homemade burritos for our family of 8 and it cost less than $20 total for everyone.
Im beginning to think the affordability crisis is really an “I don’t know how to cook” crisis
This take is not only tone-deaf; it’s hypocritical. No one is arguing that eating out is cheaper than cooking food for yourself. But a large quarter-pounder is $11 before tax for the most basic burger at McDonald’s where I live. This is expensive, and it’s indicative that the foolish lockdowns and stupid wars were costly to the American people.
The hypocrisy of Joel Berry is on display as he had no qualms decrying his groceries being 300% higher under the Biden regime. As a math note, even if the increase is only 50% under Trump 47, this would be both inflation and a diminishing return. None of that would mean the cost of living has gone down.
Additionally, Americans were promised mass deportations, which have not materialized. Instead, the Trump Administration has committed to a boondoggle in the Middle East, which has caused record-high gas prices over a sustained period of time. Previously, gas prices were the most significant commodity that did not increase with inflation, but once it did, it caused the chain reaction we see now.
Calling this out is what really has the neocon panties twisted because the higher grocery bills, influenced by fuel and fertilizer costs, are reasonably attributable to the unpopular war America is fighting for Israel.
I hear that young people are upset about $20 burritos. Okay, young people: a burrito does not cost $20. If you’re paying $20 for a burrito and you’re not independently wealthy, you’re doing life wrong. We have enough problems as a country without insane expectations that the government is going to provide us gourmet-quality burritos.
The patronizing is a sleight of hand pretending that the main issue is poor life decisions and not the excessive inflation Americans have suffered.
But the reality is that neither Joel Berry nor Ben Shapiro had qualms about calling out the cost of eggs under Biden; but all of a sudden, when the inflation is attributable to Israel, suddenly it’s ruthless capitalism and personal responsibility.

The issue will never be addressed because the root problem will never be politically palatable to solve. As long as the Fed can create money at will, inflation will happen. Everyone is more committed to their team red vs blue than reality. Both the left and the right love welfare made possible only through inflation. They only (slightly) differ on who the recipients should be. Welfare queens or “defense” contractors.
And I am very tired of “trust the plan” type Trumpers decrying “Biden inflation” while ignoring that a significant portion of that was done via the $6T additional spending done in 2020 alone by Trump using covid as an excuse. Biden also spent heavily, but its not all him.
