Two weeks ago, Robert Morris was at the helm of America’s largest megachurch, Gateway Church which boasted 100k weekly attendants. Now he’s a disgraced diddler who has resigned thusly. However, there is a lot of egg on the face of those who promoted this false teacher for many years. Charisma Magazine has had a bizarre response thus far. Last week they tied Robert Morris to Tony Evans and TD Jakes with a headline that insinuated that Dallas, Texas is under spiritual attack. They followed this up with an article examining the prophecy of Troy Black, a YouTuber with 471k subs.
In an article titled, Was This Prophecy About Gateway Church Fulfilled? they retrofit Troy Black’s year old prophecy about Gateway Church to somehow still be true after all that’s been exposed.
Gateway Church Under Spiritual Attack?
In March and April of 2023, Troy Black would “receive” a word of prophecy. Despite his channel size, the video only amassed 12000 views.
Troy Black prophesies, “Gateway Church is under spiritual assault at the moment.” He continued, ‘The enemy is moving his forces around because he hates what is happening at Gateway and its sister churches, its church family.”
Exactly why would Satan oppose a theologically liberal multicampus megachurch in the significant state of Texas? Don’t know. Black continues:
Don’t let it in. Tell fear it must go.’ And He said, ‘Unite to pray and cover Gateway Worship. The mixture of worship and the Word is infiltrating homes and setting people free and the devil is mad,’
Yett he devil was more or less content to have a pastor with a strong-hook level secret sin continue on in hypocrisy. It is, after all the hypocrisy of the Pharisees that Jesus publicly detested.
I believe this is a word for someone right now from the Holy Spirit. [Satan’s] trying to bring back up old habits or shame from past sins that have been covered by the blood. He’s trying to bring those back up to try to put a stumbling block in front of us or to try to stop us from walking out the will of God in our lives. And the word says who will bring charges against God’s elect?
Troy Black cites Romans 8:33-34 to then say that it is Satan who is trying to “bring back up” old sins. If prophetic, Troy Black was preemptively blaming the victim for being molested by Robert Morris. But this is certainly not of God.
God has a way of exposing false teachers, even posthumously. Despite the apparent issues with Ravi Zacharias, I believe God made it clear he was unregenerate after his death. Moreover, God orchestrated the exposure of Robert Morris, and this was for the edification of the church.
Troy Black pinned a comment on his original prophecy video where he attempted to reconcile his prophecy with current events:
This video came out 1 year ago. I believe the Lord was addressing what’s happening at Gateway right now in 2024. Let us continue to pray for those who are at Gateway, for the Morris family, for the victim, and anyone else who has been affected by this in any way.
Here is my current statement about the situation: I am deeply saddened by the news about Pastor Morris. My heart goes out to the victim and anyone who has been hurt by his actions. Though I do believe the prophetic word I heard over a year ago does potentially apply to the current situation, it does not in any way excuse or cover over past sin. Although Jesus’ blood does provide forgiveness for sin for all who repent and turn to Him for salvation, there often still are very real consequences for sins in this life. So, I don’t believe God is glossing over the sin that occurred. Instead, I believe that prophetic word is an indicator of the truth that God sees the members and followers of Gateway Church right where they are and that He has strength and encouragement specifically for them even through this heartache. I believe He knew exactly what they would be walking through right now. As the body of Christ, we need to pray for the victim and for the church.
But the dye is already cast. Gateway Church would be under spiritual attack, but not by Satan (or at least not as commonly understood to be by Satan). Perhaps Troy Black was appealing to America’s largest church (unsuccessfully) for views, or he was prophesying for the wrong team. Troy Black would remove his video about a prophetic dream he had about Robert Morris, though he forgot to remove it from the prophecy video description. However, in any case, Black is reputationally a false prophet, and this prophecy regarding Robert Morris of Gateway Church has aged poorly.
