John MacArthur recently acknowledged being on the final lap of his life in a video address to the Shepherd’s Conference last weekend. MacArthur’s message touched on powerful themes that resonated even for someone much younger.
Thank you for your faithfulness and being a part of Shepherds Conference. I’ll be praying for you and asking the Lord to bless in an unusual way and sharpen all of us for whatever the Lord has for us in the future. I realize I’m on the last lap. That takes on a new meaning when you know you’re on the short end of the candle. But I am all thanks and praise to God for everything He’s allowed me to be a part of and everything He’s accomplished by His Word in these years of ministry. Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
John MacArthur is an extremely accomplished and celebrated pastor. His wrestling with mortality is impressive and inspirational. As someone who has covered MacArthur for things that I agreed and disagreed on, MacArthur’s sanctification is shown through and he is finishing well, which is great to see.
Beyond that, MacArthur’s facing of death after having accomplished much is solemn yet thankful. Presently, I find myself incapable of facing death with such readiness. I am someone who has often struggled with not accomplishing enough. This is by no means a comparison to others. I’ve taken a lot of steps over the last 12 months to build because there are areas in my life where I was dissatisfied.
I’ve found myself struggling with mortality because I am not accomplished enough. MacArthur provides a godly model for facing the end of life. Surely there is more he wishes he could have accomplished? I am sure that I would feel that way if I am blessed to live so long.
But as someone at the beginning of building their legacy, it’s great to see a godly example of someone looking back at the end of building theirs.

Because of JMac I learned about being Reformed. I owe a lot to him and even though I’m not Dispy anymore he is a great example for being a follower of Christ.
My late Aunt and Uncle Betta and Bill Speakman were members of his church part of the 1970’s and 80’s until my aunt died early 1990’s.
I hope john MacArthur renounces what he said about the ability to take the mark of the Beast so you can eat during the tribulation.
