This year, the Resurrection Sunday falls on April 20th, which is a notorious holiday for marijuana smokers. This coincidence has not been lost in the internet, but it was interesting to see if any suburban megachurches would lean into this due to marijuana ubiquity in American society. Action Church in Caton, Georgia is the church to kick off the cringe with Gary Lamb starring in a smoke-filled Facebook reel.
Action Chruch brands itself as “a new church in Cherokee County that exists to redefine your definition of church! We think it is a sin for church to be boring!” This church is not actually a new church. Nevertheless, they have no faith statement or mention of any foundational Christian beliefs on their website.
Action Church advertises a hot breakfast, but first they deliver some hot cringe, betting that stoners will get up in the morning, even on Easter, to attend church. The weed ad has likely surpassed 1 million views as of this publication. It features a song from Snoop Dogg in the background because corporate America is convinced he’s the coolest thing ever, and Gary Lamb working every weed pun he can think of, which misses obvious opportunities to work in words like “buds,” “blunt,” and “joint.” This isn’t Gary Lamb’s first interaction with drugs. Back in 2018, he wanted to give needles to heroin addicts.
Action Church’s commitment to carnality as we approach Holy Week has yet to be matched, but this is likely to change.
