Physiognomy would suggest that liberals are not happy people, but it turns out that, whatever the demographic, liberals are less happy than conservatives. According to Nate Silver:
Money apparently does buy happiness, as even rich liberals could “buy” as much happiness as poor conservatives. Bisexual/others which would likely include transvestites and women who identify as nonbinary as a substitute for a personality were the most miserable group in all the survey when liberal.
Gen Z conservatives were the most unhappy of the conservatives, but still above water. Unsurprisingly, Boomers are the happiest generation, even the liberals. Conservatives with PhDs were that happiest group surveyed at 75.
White and Black conservatives were equally happy, but Black liberals were 8 points happier than the self-hating White liberals.
Nate Silver can’t ignore the data:
One thing I think we can say is that the correlation isn’t spurious. Age and religiosity matter a lot — religious people are happier, younger people are sadder — but the liberal/conservative gap outweighs almost all other characteristics except age.
The data shows, regardless of other factors, that liberalism is less conducive to happiness.
