Tyler Robinson Trial

Charlie Kirk Denied Speedy Justice As Judge Punts Preliminary Hearing Results

The preliminary hearing for Tyler Robinson, accused in the murder of Charlie Kirk, concluded on Friday, July 10, 2026, in Provo, Utah. Proceedings took place over five days, with the culmination on Friday focusing on defense arguments and a critical delay in the judge’s ruling.

In a move that frustrated proponents of swift justice, Judge Tony Graf announced he would postpone his decision on whether Robinson faces trial until September 1st. This delay, pushing a key determination months past the hearing’s conclusion, stands in stark contrast to the demand for speedy justice for Charlie Kirk. While Judge Graf’s rationale remains unspecified in public reports, the decision to punt on this critical ruling has drawn criticism for potentially prolonging the legal process.

During the week’s proceedings, the prosecution presented evidence, including a video purportedly showing Tyler Robinson committing the shooting. This video, reportedly shown in court, was not broadcast publicly. The decision to withhold public dissemination was cited as a measure to prevent tainting a potential jury pool, a standard legal practice aimed at ensuring a fair trial. The defense, led by attorney Michael Burt, continued its strategy of meticulously questioning the evidence presented by the prosecution throughout the week, including forensic findings and witness testimonies, aiming to undermine the case against Robinson.

This preliminary hearing, starting July 6th, does not count as the formal start of the trial. The court’s ruling on September 1st will determine if and when the case proceeds to a full trial.
