Dinesh D’Souza vs. JD Hall debate

Bonus Thoughts: Dinesh D’Souza’s Debate Performance

In the recent D’Souza-Hall debate on “Replacement Theology,” D’Souza would go on to insist that he’s not involved with the Israel lobby and would pride himself on the recency with which he has begun to argue in favor of Zionism, etc. What Dinesh D’Souza meant as a boost to his credibility works against him.

The Dragon’s Prophecy (2025) is Dinesh D’Souza’s most recent documentary. Directed and written by D’Souza (with producers including Bruce Schooley and Debbie D’Souza), it is based on Rabbi Jonathan Cahn’s bestselling book of the same name. The roughly 90-minute film examines the October 7, 2023, Hamas attacks on Israel and ongoing Middle East conflicts through the lens of biblical history, archaeology, and prophecy.

It frames current events as echoing ancient battles (such as those between the Israelites and Philistines in the Old Testament) and explores themes of good versus evil, antisemitism, radical Islam/terrorism, the spiritual dimensions of the conflict, and the possibility that these events signal “end times.” D’Souza connects modern geopolitics to scriptural patterns and argues that the fate of humanity and the human soul are tied to these struggles. The film includes a call to action urging Jews and Christians to return to their spiritual roots, stand for good, and resist evil.

Though this documentary made little splash, it diminishes D’Souza’s credibility or at least his appeal to recency. It is suspicious that someone cared little about the Israel question or what Scripture says on the topic until they were making a movie adapting a false prophet’s book to appeal to a particular audience that has bought into doomsday charts and timelines. This might suggest an ulterior motive for D’Souza’s sudden lack of reticence on the subject.

Additionally, financial incentives are present within the circles that D’Souza runs in, particularly Salem Media, which can act as a distribution partner as well as a platform to promote his work. Salem Media has been heavily implicated in Israeli influence operations.

It becomes apparent that his convictions come not from a reading of Scriptures but from osmosis. Even his City of God/City of Man appeal, however novel, is not articulated well enough to come across as original. It’s almost as if he’s copying someone else’s argument but has not mastered it.

I’m theorizing here, but it sure does seem like every Christian Zionist influencer has a clear financial motivation to peddle the foreign talking points, and D’Souza is no exception.
