On August 14, 2026 at 11:00 AM (EDT), Candace Owens finally sat down to defend her alternative theories regarding the Charlie Kirk shooting with Christian ethicist and prolific debater Andrew Wilson. We covered the ongoing saga of this on again, off again debate here. To this point, Ms. Owens has refused any sort of public debate on the topic, only agreeing to it now after Wilson and Brian Atlas (Whatever Podcast) both kicked in $150K for the opportunity to sit down for 3.5 hours to debate “Tyler Robinson: Guilty or Patsy?”. Instead of Joe Rogan or Michael Knowles, it would be moderated by Patrick Bet-David. Introductions
Both speakers started with brief opening statements. Andrew Wilson went first, simply saying that the evidence supports Tyler Robinson acting alone as the shooter and that there is no evidence of a grand conspiracy where he was the fall guy or possibly not even the shooter at all. He says that this view is based on witness testimony, physical evidence, and confessions, and he is here to cross-examine Candace’s alternative theories, none of which he finds compelling. Andrew also read a previously unreleased text message from Charlie, the day before he was shot, in which he told his security team that he was afraid that “the left” was trying to kill him. Wilson is 75-85% sure that Tyler Robinson is guilty and acted alone.
For Owens’ opening, she focused on the evidence that more strongly supports that Tyler was a patsy, based mostly on forensic inconsistencies and government narrative issues. Candace pushed back on Andrew, saying that she has presented plenty of evidence on her show. She is 0% sure that Tyler Robinson is guilty, which actually creates an impossible burden of proof for her to achieve.
The Shooting and the Gun
The debate begins quickly with Wilson trying to nail down exactly what Owens really believes about Charlie’s death, much easier said than done. Owens says that Kirk could not have been shot with a 30-06 round, based on the “experiments” performed by Nate Cornacchia of Valhalla VFT on YouTube. It’s interesting that Candace references this guy, since he outright disagrees with her Fort Huachuca theory in which Erika and Charlie’s head of security allegedly were seen the day before the tragic shooting, to plan the hit.
Furthermore, Ms. Owens casts doubt on the gun that was found at the scene, since it was determined to have 5 sets of fingerprints, including Tyler Robinson’s, whose were the most degraded. So, her claim here is that the gun was not shot most recently by Tyler and that the gun was taken from the house, to be planted at the scene. Andrew does a good job of explaining how it does not logically follow from this that Tyler Robinson is a patsy. This is also the start of Candace casually mentioning that she was told this by an anonymous source that we must trust has been vetted by her.
Semantic Games
In order to muddy the waters, Candace focuses on Andrew’s use of the word “overwhelming” when describing the evidence against Tyler Robinson. Up to this point, she claims that all of the evidence we have heard is (reliable) hearsay, presented under Utah Code § 76-6-1102. Wilson says multiple times that he’s not disputing that at all, instead demanding the logical chain of inference that gets from degraded fingerprints to Tyler being a patsy. Owens doesn’t really understand the meaning of words or of the legal system. She constantly complains about his demands, trying to play the victim in the exchange.
Text Messages and Confessions
Around the 59:00 mark, the discussion starts getting into testimony, especially from Robinson’s boyfriend Lance Twiggs. Andrew makes the point that you have to look at the totality of the evidence, not the individual pieces of evidence in isolation. As an aside, a compelling theory must be able to explain all of the evidence together. Regarding Tyler Robinson being caught on camera, Wilson says he texted his boyfriend that you’ll be able to see me on security footage. Owens asks for a fact check. This was a huge L for her at this point:
Ms. Owens quickly pivots back to the preliminary hearing being based on hearsay, and she doubles down on the photos being blurry, not indicative of a positive identification of Tyler Robinson.
After a quick ad break, Andrew lays out succinctly what he finds most compelling in terms of the evidence against Tyler Robinson: the text messages/confessions, the physical evidence, and the totality of the evidence taken together. In order to generate discussion, Andrew asks why he should question the text messages that the defense is not even questioning the validity of.
Owens deflects by saying that the defense did not receive discovery (text messages) and were denied an extension. Furthermore, Candace says that the text messages felt too “on the nose” and also too intellectual to have come from Tyler Robinson. “Something feels off,” Candace claims. She also says that the defense has not received key evidence, which gets fact-checked live. Andrew’s team was much better prepared to provide receipts. Most of the challenges, Candace was being checked and not him.
Explaining Away the Robinson Family
Around the 1:29:00 mark, the debate shifts to information provided on the charging documents about the parents of Tyler Robinson. Once again, Candace Owens finds a way to doubt that the information about Tyler’s parents is accurate. She claims that it was possibly sourced from undercover police officer Mike Mitchell and alludes to having a source close to the family that disputes the charging documents. Andrew questions why the parents and the defense are refusing to correct the record, and she explains that there’s a gag order on the parents and “it’s completely the wrong time” for the defense to speak on this. Andrew, quick on his feet, points out that evidently the parents are not concerned about keeping silent when it came to her anonymous source.
Eventually, Wilson concedes the point that the charging document was misconstrued. So then, why not wait for the trial if it will all come out then? Owens makes a very weak attempt to accuse him of doing the same. Andrew counters by saying that he would not care if everyone just said that they doubted the official narrative. The problem is that claims are being made outside of that under the guise of “just asking questions,” such as Israel and France did this.
Attempt at Rapid Fire
Andrew Wilson, after returning from an ad break, states his intention to ask some rapid fire questions. Candace attempts to frame this as a deposition, turning this into a meta-debate. Really frustrating and a theme that will repeat for the duration of the exchange.
- Was Lance Twiggs’ DNA on the gun? We can’t say that for certainty.
- Was the French Foreign Legion trying to kill you? Yes, and I reported it to Tulsi Gabbard and Donald Trump.
- What is your positive evidence for this? It was told to me by someone high up in the French government.
- Do you believe that Israel was involved in the death of Charlie Kirk? Can you provide the context for that?
- Do you have any positive evidence that Israel killed Charlie Kirk? There’s a very strong motive at play that’s stronger than anything to do with Tyler Robinson.
The Israel question was a disaster for Candace Owens. Andrew kept pressing her for positive evidence, a concept that she doesn’t seem to understand. She said that Tyler went to eat at Chick-fil-A, which no homosexual activist would do. That’s the level of argumentation we are dealing with: Robinson’s fast food choices. And despite perception, Chick-fil-A is an insanely woke corporation.
- Were Erika Kirk or TPUSA involved in killing Charlie Kirk? I have never said that.
This is not true at all. Candace has said openly on her show that Erika and TPUSA were involved. Then, there’s a quick break for a live fact check to show that France and Israel were involved, which Candace declared with full confidence on her show. Then we returned to the meta-debate over what “positive evidence” means.
Candace Retreats
In the most aggressive point in the debate, Andrew Wilson makes an attempt to force Candace Owens to defend her conspiracy mongering at the 2:34:00 timestamp: “Do you actually believe that anybody in TPUSA or Erika Kirk […] actually participated, had foreknowledge of, or facilitated the murder of Charlie Kirk?” This was an excellent way to put the question to Candace, such that she’d have no choice but to take a stand one way or the other. Unsurprisingly, she refused to answer.
Despite accusing both TPUSA and Erika Kirk multiple times in multiple ways (even calling Erika a “black widow”), Owens says that she’s not going to get herself into a legal pickle here by making defamatory statements. Rather, she simply says that they should be questioned. Again, we’re back to “just asking questions.” This should be considered game/set/match for her side, as she is flat out refusing to defend her position or even define her position.
Moving the Goalposts
With the proverbial blood in the water, Andrew’s team jumped into action, playing a clip where Candace unequivocally says that Erika Kirk is “complicit” somehow on the basis that Erika believed that Tyler Robinson was the killer. Undaunted, Candace goes full Bill Clinton, saying that “complicit” here doesn’t mean complicit, morally culpable in the death of Charlie. What else could it possibly mean? Andrew presses her, but Candace filibusters in an attempt to add context to the word “complicit.” Whereas complicit meant, in context, that Erika was involved in the hit job, Candace claims that it meant that Erika was merely complicit in spreading a false narrative (i.e., Tyler was the shooter).
We can say definitively that no one took it that way, especially given the totality of Candace’s accusations toward Mrs. Kirk. At this time, Wilson has forced Owens into a full retreat. Everything she’s been prattling about for almost a year was all a big nothingburger.
Just Keep Obfuscating
Candace Owens now launches a counterattack, questioning Andrew’s suspicious relationship with TPUSA. She even asked him about a tweet where he called Erika Kirk retarded (based). Andrew handles this well, then redirects to the exploding microphone theory. This is the idea that Charlie was killed not by a bullet but with a microphone rigged to explode. Wilson makes an attempt to show how this is ridiculous, explaining that an explosion would show smoke, and bullets do indeed cause air dispersal that would affect someone’s shirt.
Owens laughs at this, as if Wilson is making this all up. But this is very on brand for a woman who doesn’t understand how thunder is caused. Before closing statements, Wilson also nailed her to the wall regarding the steakhouse receipt that allegedly proves that Tyler Robinson was nowhere near the campus at the time of the shooting. Candace does not have this receipt, nor has she seen an unredacted version of it, yet it’s part of her alternative narrative.
Irrelevant W for Owens
There was one point near the end of the debate where Candace got one up on Andrew. There was a question over what the charges (7) were against Tyler Robinson. Andrew Wilson said “murder” was one of them, but could not name any other. Candace corrected him that it was “aggravated murder,” as if that’s so different, before listing out the rest of the lesser charges. Andrew Wilson himself called this a tactical mistake in a post-debate interview with Steven Crowder, but the specifics of the charges are irrelevant to the debate. Still, Ian Carroll clipped this and posted it as proof that Candace won. Honestly, it’s all that her side has to cling to after she ran from all of her long-held positions.
Closing Statements
Andrew Wilson closed strong, correctly pointing out that Candace Owens had nothing. She had no positive evidence for Israel, France, TPUSA, or Erika being involved. Also, Candace condemns hearsay in the preliminary hearing while at the same time using hearsay for her own timeline! None of her counter-narratives have evidence behind them, not even bad evidence; rather, they were arrived at via intuition and vibes.
Candace Owens, for her part, says that Andrew did not address important pieces of evidence (e.g., the screwdriver) and instead focused on Erika Kirk. Hilariously, she thanks Wilson for sitting down with her, as if this debate was all her doing, when in fact she had to be bribed and then shamed into even doing it! That’s how important her ideas are. They require six figures in order to be explained and defended. She closes by saying that there were more people involved in the shooting and declaring victory. Mercifully, the debate ends here.
Conclusion
There are many takeaways when examining the spectacle that is Candace Owens. We have said consistently that she is not demonic, and you will see that for yourself as you watch this debate. Candace is a grifter through and through, and she’s very good at it. She knows just how far she can go in order to keep her true crime grift going. This was a setback, but she will weather it, at least in the short term.
If you are a believer in her theories, you need to grapple with this: you must have absolute trust in her ability to vet anonymous sources. Almost everything that she puts out is based on them, as she has no real investigative experience or privileged access to evidence. But we already know that she will parrot the stories of Mitch Snow, who was her source for the Fort Huachuca mentioned above. No one in Charlie’s inner circle was there, and Snow has a long history of fraud and multiple felonies. Owens has moved on from him to other theories, in order to keep the mob satiated. And she will keep doing so as long as the checks keep cashing. During this debate, she maintained 200K live viewers on her channel, which is, in a word, astronomical. She won’t be going away anytime soon, but perhaps this is the beginning of the end. Such an end can’t come soon enough.
