Dusty Deevers Loses Primary Challenge

Dusty Deevers ascended to the Oklahoma State Senate via a special election in 2023. But this week he lost his primary challenge, not even making it to a runoff. In a video announcement, he said:

Hey everybody, thank you so much for all of your support, your prayers, your encouragement over the last several months. It’s been an incredible journey. We ran a great campaign. We stayed true to our principles.

We talked about the issues that matter most: the sanctity of human life from fertilization until natural death, parental rights, biblical marriage and family, religious liberty, and really just standing for what’s right in the public square.

And I’m grateful for the nearly 30% of the vote that we received. That’s a strong showing, especially considering we were outspent significantly by outside groups. But more than that, I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve you in the Oklahoma Senate for the last three and a half years. It’s been an honor and a privilege.To my supporters: thank you. To those who worked so hard knocking doors, making calls, texting, praying — I love you all.

To my family: I couldn’t have done any of this without you. You all sacrificed so much. I’m so thankful for you.Look, elections have consequences, and this one did. But our God is sovereign. He’s on His throne. And He has a plan for each and every one of us. I don’t know what the future holds, but I know who holds the future. And I’m excited to see what He has in store next.We’re not going to stop fighting for what’s right. We’re going to continue to advocate for the unborn, for families, for limited government, and for biblical values in our state and in our nation.

There’s too much at stake to quit now. So let’s keep pressing on. Let’s keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith. Let’s love our neighbors well. Let’s be salt and light in this culture that so desperately needs it. Thank you again. God bless you, God bless Oklahoma, and God bless the United States of America.”

Deevers credits his defeat to outside spending and the general resistance that non-moderate Republicans receive. In defeat, Dusty Deevers remained classy as ever.
