He’s the latest product of a system that prioritizes perceived gain: more minutes, a clearer shot at a major tournament. It’s a transactional approach to patriotism, and Whitlock correctly identifies these transactional relationships for what they are: they erode the foundational principles of things.

Although the fact-checkers would oppose him, Jason Whitlock is absolutely right that his tenure on the USMNT is the most American thing about him, which is his attachment to a sport most Americans care little about or even deride.
Balogun is both a failure caused by birthright citizenship and the increasingly mercenary nature of international athletics. Whitlock is right to call this out, especially since many Christians have been reticent to call out the poor Supreme Court ruling.

Jason Whitlock Is a hero of sports commentary. I confess to having given up on watching sports as it increasingly became a venue for shoving things down our throats contrary to a Christian World View. But I’ve taken is some of his stuff on Reels on fb as friends send me stuff there and he often provides great insight.
