Samuel Sey getting deported

Joel Berry, Jeremy Boreing Lie To Raise Money For Illegal Alien

Jeremy Boreing is a paragon of virtue in the world of Christless conservatism, and Joel Berry, formerly of Babylon Bee, is his dimwitted sidekick. Over the weekend, they launched a fundraiser for Samuel Sey in response to his arrest by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The fundraiser reads:

Support for Samuel Sey’s Family

Our dear friend Samuel Sey was detained by ICE while traveling. He is a husband, father, school teacher, married to Annie with three beautiful children, and has been living here as a legal resident of the United States from Canada. His wife is working to get him released on bail so he can fix any clerical issues that need to be addressed for his legal residence. We are raising money to help his wife and children with expenses while he’s out of work, as well as any legal fees they incur. Samuel is a good man and a brother in Christ, and his ministry at SlowToWrite has been a blessing to many. Please consider helping. Thank you for standing with them!

Update from the Sey family
October 25, 2026

Update from the Seys: the family and their lawyer have been working to get to the bottom of the situation and will be releasing a statement in the next few days.

In the GiveSendGo page, which is credited to Joel Berry, there are multiple material misrepresentations. The first one is Sey’s profession as a school teacher despite lacking a completed education. More prominently, Berry states that Sey is a legal resident when in 4 years he failed to follow up his entry visa with subsequent steps to attain a permenant resident.

These lies helped raise over $22000 at the time of writing. The campaign prominently featured a $5000 donation from Jeremy Boreing and was promoted by Owen Strachan, Gabriel Hughes, and Protestia.

Good faith people may have likely fallen for these lies and have only given money on the impression that Sey was innocent of wrongdoing and is not an illegal alien. Joel Berry and company knew this would be bad for thier campaign and reputations in the media, so they misrepresented the facts to appeal to the compassion of believers.

This material misrepresentation violates GiveSendGo’s terms of service and has been reported to the platform for review. This is a developing story.

  1. His status as a brother in Christ is not freedom to disobey the laws we are all subject to. Quite the contrary. Lying about him to elicit sympathy is clearly wrong as well!
