The Samuel Sey debacle has exposed many Christian leaders for their unequal weights and measures regarding immigration law. Joel Berry has launched the fundraiser for the Sey family while having maintained the narrative facade of his legal residnecy. DHS thuroughly debunked this when they told Megan Basham that Sey had no pending applications and accepted voluntary deportation.
Joel Berry, evidently speaking for the Sey family posted the following statement:
Update from the Seys: “My husband Samuel Sey entered the United States legally and has been working ever since in good faith with a lawyer to obtain permanent legal status. Our family is trying to understand what went wrong in the process. In the spirit of Romans 13, our family fully supports and respects American law and are prayerfully working to get him home through the legal process.”
Joel Berry posted a paragraph, but none of it demonstrated that they had evidence that Sey was legally in the country. Instead, it’s a blame shift. Somebody dropped the ball. The governemnt. The lawyer. But the implication is that it was not Samuel Sey himself.
