Sarah Young is an American author best known for her widely read and influential devotional book, “Jesus Calling.” Born on July 12, 1946, in Nashville, Tennessee, she has had a significant impact on the Christian publishing world.
Young’s upbringing was rooted in a Christian household, and her faith played a central role in her life from an early age. She attended a Christian school during her formative years, which further shaped her religious convictions. This early exposure to Christianity influenced her spiritual development and later career choices.
After completing her high school education, Young pursued higher studies. She attended Wellesley College in Massachusetts, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in economics. Following her undergraduate studies, she continued her education by attending the graduate program in creative writing at Columbia University in New York City.
“Jesus Calling,” her most well-known work, emerged from the personal writings of her time as a missionary in Japan. Originally published in 2004, the book is a collection of daily devotionals written from the perspective of Jesus speaking directly to the reader. The book quickly gained popularity for its unique format and the sense of intimacy it conveyed in its messages.
