John MacArthur Reacts To Steve Lawson Adultery Scandal

The adultery scandal of Steve Lawson has led to a Thanos-snap of a prominent pastor in Evangelicalism, with very few details publicly revealed and many mysteries. In our last report on this story, the woman Steve Lawson was having an illicit relationship with was a graduate of The Master’s University which tied the events to John MacArthur’s Grace Community Church.

In a Q&A session at Grace Community Church, John MacArthur was asked a vague question, and MacArthur read the underlying context as about Steve Lawson and proceeded to give a rather edifying response.

MacArthur makes two points. The first is that God is purifying the church, for which MacArthur was grateful. On this point, MacArthur remarks, “God exposed someone in a position they had no right to be in.”

MacArthur then made a commentary on spiritual warfare and Satan infiltrating the church. Naming Hillsong and Robert Morris’s Gateway Church, MacArthur argues that these churches have unfaithful shepherds making a negative impact and that churches with sound theology are not immune. Even though, Grace Community Church has theological hurdles that weed out many bad actors, a shepherd can still be unfaithful despite having “the appearance of a positive influence.”

John MacArthur certainly views Steve Lawson as an unfaithful shepherd and shows a pessimistic outlook on his overall faith.

“I don’t know how you preach past your conscience unless it’s completely scarred over.”

Protestia published an article reporting that Steve Lawson’s other woman is reportedly repentant while Steve Lawson is not.

Details have been thin regarding the exact nature of Lawson’s “inappropriate relationship” revealed a little over a month ago, yet sources close to the situation have reported that the young woman Lawson was involved with has been cooperative and repentant regarding her sinful relationship with the long-serving pastor. Lawson remains silent and, by all reports, unrepentant and uncommunicative,

This seems to be the view of the situation in MacArthur’s camp which is tragic if true.
