Checking in on the world of megachurches, today a Colorado church embarks on having a preach-off on Super Bowl Sunday in the hopes of appealing to the culture and indulging their carnal desires. Grace Place is a megachurch in Berthoud, Colorado. It is a part of the Evangelical Covenant Church, a theologically liberal denomination. And this would be their fourth annual preach-off.
The event is advertised as follows and is considered a local outreach:
It’s the time of year when football season is coming to a close, but we like to make the biggest sports day of the year a bit bigger. It’s time to get excited for our 4th annual Super Bowl Preach Off!
We’ve decided that the football players can’t have all the fun on Super Bowl Sunday! During our normal service times on Sunday February 9th, four of our pastors will be going against each other in a 2v2, completely good-natured, only *slightly* competitive matchup of preaching! And just like the big game, we’ll have commentators, commercials, penalties, tailgating snacks, and more!
At halftime, we’re turning up the heat with baptisms—a public declaration of faith for those who feel called to take the plunge. And just when you think it’s all over, we’re taking it into overtime—because when it comes to salvation, there’s always more room for a life-changing encounter.
We know this event may sound a little unconventional, but we do it each year as a way of having some laughs and good times as a community, while still hearing some great teaching and worshipping God together! We think you’ll love it, and hope to see you there wearing your favorite jersey!
This is a church with six pastors, two of them being women, as is customary in a liberal church.
The Evangelical Covenant Church has been promoting Critical Race Theory since 2009 and has embraced Side B Theology at an institutional level. Despite this, they have a catalog of megachurches in their directory, including Life Dot Chruch, the largest megachurch in the United States, featuring Craig Groeschel.

One of the worst sermons I ever heard was at an Evangelical Covenant church. It was a three point sermon: 1. Moses had a burning bush experience. 2. Have you had a burning bush experience? 3. Is your burning bush experience still real to you?
