Fox News Media signed conservative podcaster and influencer Brett Cooper as a contributor, the company announced on Wednesday. Brett Cooper is a conservative influencer with millions of followers who recently departed from The Daily Wire following the expiration of her contract. In the midst of the Daily Wire drama, Brett Cooper appeared to be on Team Candace.
The Daily Wire tried and failed to replace Brett Cooper with Reagan Conrad. Cooper went independent in a move I applauded as the most lucrative path forward. Now she has signed a Fox News contributor deal.
It does not appear that the Fox News deal will be to the detriment of her podcast career; rather, it will retain her as an on-air talent for the legacy cable network.
For Fox News, it’s an attempt to bring on young talent for a network who’s average viewer is 69 years old. However, Brett Cooper’s audience will not follow. I doubt Fox News is naive enough to think that young people will pay for cable in order to watch Brett Cooper, occasionally on Fox News. But perhaps they believe that Brett Cooper’s presence will give their aging audience a facade of relevance, as personalities like Tucker Carlson and Megyn Kelly have amassed a larger audience without Fox News. Bringing on a big name like Cooper is a feeble attempt to show the prowess of Fox News at best, and an expensive attempt at sex appeal at worst.
In any case, Fox News will inevitably become irrelevant because cable TV is becoming irrelevant, and they have failed to adapt to YouTube or podcasting.
