For half a year, liberals have fearmongered about ICE raids during local church worship services to detain illegal aliens. But these predictions have not come to fruition. There was a Christianity Today story where the church was in some sort of mall when someone was arrested for invading the country. Now there is an apostate church in California claiming to have been raided by ICE to garner national attention.
In an op ed for USA Today, Tanya Lopez, a female pastor at Downey Memorial Church in Downey, California, embellishes an incident at her church to rally liberals to her open borders ideology.
Last month, the sanctity of our space was shattered.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents entered the parking lot of Downey Memorial Christian Church to take a man who was walking through our property. The agents were armed, masked and aggressive.
They tried to intimidate clergy and staff − people whose only armor is their faith and moral convictions. In that moment, our sacred space became a site of state-sanctioned fear and violence.
Already, this raid was not during a church or even inside a church building, but instead, ICE detained someone walking on church property. But because the agents were armed and on church property, this is tantamount to terrorism.
These are not abstract fears. They are grounded in the reality our congregation and other houses of worship face.
Again and again, President Donald Trump’s administration has traded compassion for cruelty and mercy for militarization.
With the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which increases funding for ICE and expands its power to conduct raids, the message is clear: no space is sacred.
But let me be just as clear: our faith commands a different path. Our faith in action is God’s relentless love for the most vulnerable. It is the Gospel. Good news to those who need it most.
She goes on to detail her local activism on the invasion issue. It should be noted that Lopez likely only views America as her economic zone to make money as a false teacher, so she has no loyalty to the United States and flagrantly disregards Romans 13 so that her compatriots can receive special treatment under the law.
But with all the Big Eva fearmongering about ICE raids in churches, it’s quite pathetic that they embellish such innocuous captures.Â
