Within the realm of sports media, there are numerous diva personalities that have risen to prominence over the years. Amongst them is Shannon Sharp, a former NFL tight end and sports commentator with CBS and FS1. In broadcasting, he is most known for being paired with Skip Bayless on Undisputed. He would later leave FS1 and go to ESPN where he joined First Take. Throughout his career, Sharpe has always been known for his personality, which at times has been rather effeminate. This is perhaps the inevitability of turning sports commentary into a masculine version of The View. Nevertheless, commentators like Jason Whitlock have spoken about Sharpe’s antics for several years.
It is not just his on-screen presence that is melodramatic, but also his personal life with the ladies. In 2024, he “accidentally” used Instagram Live during a sexual encounter. The passage being highlighted comes from 2 Samuel 22:47-49, with an extra emphasis on verse 49, “you rescue me from violent men,” as a not-so-subtle attack against Shannon Sharpe, insinuating that he was violent and that God delivered her. Unsurprisingly, the secular outlets did not correctly identify the passage. Psalm 18 is a parallel passage as the context involves David’s deliverance from Sheba’s rebellion and the grand defeat of the Philistines.
This is another circumstance of celebrities making a mockery of the Scriptures. In this case, a prostitute had sexual relations with a (notorious) philanderer and extorted his idiotic self out of millions only to retire and feign religiosity out of spite. This is a Total Depravity type of situation, as one man’s fornication, which evidently involved even more depraved types of sexual acts, led to his exploitation.
One of the principles of law is that the government cannot enforce an illegal contract. A drug dealer cannot sue for a stepped-on package, but neither should a relationship between an online prostitute and a celebrity athlete be disputable within the courts. That is what this settlement was: the world’s most expensive act of prostitution. Society should not tolerate public disputes between hookers and Johns, nor the existence of OnlyFans. In this era, porn stars are celebrities, and pornography has been democratized.
In an episode of total depravity, Sharpe is a sexual degenerate whose whore received life-changing wealth because of his foolishness. His career is forever tarnished, and deservedly so. However, Zuniga is no victim, and while she may have extorted her way to great wealth at the age of 20, the LORD will not be mocked.
