As regular readers and viewers of the Evangelical Dark Web know, we are no strangers to the Michael Brown #MeToo scandal. Ultimately, Dr. Brown admitted to inappropriate behavior with a former female student, who years later recast this physical contact as sexual abuse. While we somewhat disagree with that framing, Brown’s behavior in spanking a female student is completely creepy, and he even admitted to possibly lying about the spanks in prior interviews about the location of the physical contact.
Naturally, all of this is rather embarrassing for long-term friend Dr. James White, who has promoted Dr. Brown and his work for decades. White has conveniently ignored this scandal as he has Brown’s abhorrent NAR-driven theology. Not content to let this stand, we have applied a great deal of public pressure to James White on this issue.
White regularly interacts and promotes the work of Hitler Hated Christ (HHC) and Eli McGowan. These two men regularly denounce Christian men for thought crimes, while promoting a guilt-by-association flavor of social media justice. Here are two examples:
The framing is quite clear: The Jolly Brawler and Tax Slave Dave are evil racists, as is anyone who associates with them. That is the game that is played, every single time.
So, last summer, we began to exert some pressure on these friends of Dr. White regarding his refusal to address the Michael Brown scandal. To provide some context for this conversation, both HHC and Eli McGowan were attacking Pastor Joel Webbon for going on Elijah Schaffer’s RiftTV program, and furthermore for not policing Elijah’s off-color jokes. So, we confronted HHC on his hypocrisy in that he tolerates James White’s continued association with Michael Brown.
As you can see, James White responds by insulting me as unhinged while adopting an agnostic view of his friend’s misdeeds. Everyone talking about it has a strong agenda for or against Brown, so it’s impossible to know the truth. Furthermore, Webbon’s association with Schaffer is far more serious than anything Michael Brown has said or done. Notably, Joel Webbon commented on this interaction on a later RiftTV appearance, as an example of the Friend/Enemy distinction.
A few months later in December 2025, even more pressure was applied to James White, this time by Joel Webbon directly. In a tweet regarding Michael Brown, Pastor Webbon said, “Dr. James White and Michael Brown have been close friends for decades, and James White has never spoken about Michael Brown the way he has spoken about guys like me.” For the first time since the scandal broke, James White addressed it on an episode of The Dividing Line. The relevant clip can be found here, wherein James once again says he doesn’t have the time to look into this scandal. As I point out in the edited clip, James is more than happy to investigate a holocaust meme that was sent privately to a now disgraced German pastor.
Finally, we come to February 2026, where we once again challenged HHC for his tolerance of White’s silence on Michael Brown.
Once again, we bring up the Friend/Enemy distinction to HHC, and once again, he makes excuses for the obvious double standards. James White responds by using my real name, “Ignore [redacted]. He is nothing but a troubler of the brethren.”
Conclusion
We do not condone the denunciation of Christian brothers on the basis on non-sinful words. That is not our purpose in bringing this up to Dr. White’s attention. Rather, we are holding him and his acolytes to the same impossible standard that they set for everyone else. In doing so, we demonstrate a great inconsistency, and as James White is fond of saying, “Inconsistency is the sign of a failed argument.”
