One of the more disturbing trends in recent years is the prevalence of student-teacher sex scandals wherein the teacher is a woman fornicating with male students. Often, the female teachers caught in these scandals are married. Accounts like Rollo Tomassi document the trend, albeit calling out the “double standard” of these sex scandals when the “roles are reversed.”
Recently, Orange Lutheran High School in California has admitted to a scandal under investigation. Orange Lutheran is affiliated with the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and lists several LCMS and ELCA churches as affiliate partners. Their football program is part of the Trinity division which consists of various private Christian schools, including Santa Margarita, the number one high school in California and a top five program nationally. Orange Lutheran parted ways with their former coach, Rod Sherman, after a poor 2025 season, placing their General Manager, Kyla Laulhere over the team going into spring ball. Laulhere is related to Marc Laulhere, the school’s notably successful volleyball coach.
An email from the school to parents stated the following:
While the school’s message is cryptic and vague, the internet quickly revealed what likely transpired. The account College Transfer Portal, a curator of college football news, posted allegations that the incident in question involved Laulhere and several players.
The insinuation of multiple players would clearly insinuate that players were participating in a “gang bang.” Often in these situations, the teacher is providing drugs and/or alcohol to the students and is engaging with the students via social media, something that is generally banned between students and teachers.
The school website has also scrubbed Laulhere from its website, which is a clear implication of Laulhere’s role.
It remains to be seen whether there will come criminal charges out of this situation. While the school remains hushed on the subject, the evidence indicates that there is more details to come. There is a broader trend of older women prowling for younger men, where the women feel validated and desired while the men receive easier sex without having to navigate the modern dating scene. These types of scandals often fall under a similar dynamic. Where songs like Van Halen’s “Hot For Teacher” only fantasized about these things, the reality has become a disturbing trend in recent years, and supposedly-Christian schools are not exempt.
