There is one main factor at play here: demographic decline.
Demographic decline leads to an aging population eating up more money domestically meaning less money in foreign affairs.
Israel is a demographic outlier, while the whole planet will soon be in demographic decline, meaning taxing a young and large working-age population for spending on foreign wars is going to be a thing of the past. Every penny is needed to fund the pension systems instead.
Plummeting support is simple economic result of baby boomers aging out of the workforce. They need that tithe/tax money for themselves and no longer want to spend it on “holy lands”. There is no centralized AI bot campaign needed to have aging people divert animal shelter donations to their skyrocketing medical bills. Demographic decline also leads to religious decline which in turn erodes support for “holy” causes even further.
Usually the delusional allegation of sovereign state influence is based on a ruler’s own illusion of control. Many developments in human history are just chaotic decentralized decisions by independent actors, who don’t coordinate and don’t have to. This is creating fear in “powerful” people, because they regularly overestimate their own ability to control things on a global scale. Many desperately pray to their gods to turn fleshly things in their favor, betting on coincidences and happy accidents, while the goal has been eternal salvation since forever.
