Doug Wilson vs NXR controlled oppositon

Joel Webbon Goes After Doug Wilson. Canon Press Responds With “Vagina Monologues”

For years, there has been an ongoing beef between Doug Wilson and Joel Webbon rooted, primarily, in their respective theologies on Jews. Wilson has certain philosemitic tendencies which culminated in his Antioch Declaration’s push to differentiate Judaism from other false religions. Webbon’s brand has ballooned in recent years, and he has become known for speaking against modern Judaism and Zionism, even going so far as to feature guests like Nick Fuentes and Jake Shields.

In many ways, Wilson and Webbon have much in common with how they built their brands. They both act boldly and desire to be early on issues. Both men are pioneers, which is not always a positive attribute when it comes to theology. Wilson wrote books about courtship in the 90s and had bold words on the issue of slavery. He is more prone to doubling and tripling down than backing down, even when he is wrong. Webbon is similar and has a desire to be early on an issue. Their primary differences pertain to their presentation and their respective generations. Wilson has a higher-brow presentation that at times devolves into sophistry, while Webbon is more populist, which at times devolves into slop.

That said, a recent post by Canon is a strange personal attack in response to recent content from Webbon on the various theological developments of Wilson that have coincided with his becoming more mainstream within Conservatism. During the podcast, Webbon insinuated that Wilson was either a “fed” due to a visit from the FBI years ago or was otherwise bought by foreign interests, like Yoram Hazony. The evidence presented was very “Candace Owens-esque,” with Webbon not outright saying these things against Wilson, only implying them. He further compared them to Lauren Chen of Tenet Media and the alleged connections to the Russian government.

Given the personal nature of the attack against Wilson, Team Moscow decided to return fire with a personal attack of their own.

Joel Webbon Vagina Monologues

The post from Canon is a clear response to the Webbon video from that same day. The reference to the feminist episodic play Vagina Monologues. Canon is trolling Webbon for his history of theological shifts, suggesting that he has shifted so much that he at one point will be championing unrestricted female sexuality. It is legitimate to critique Webbon for his regular shifts in theology. Perhaps there is even a way to satirically do so without appearing to be responding to Webbon’s criticism of Wilson in a very petty fashion. To do so with reference to a sexualized, feminist propaganda piece is perhaps a low blow and was received as being in poor taste. Even male feminists like Owen Strachan, who does not like Webbon, called it out amongst others. Others questioned why they chose to post that, which is a reasonable question to ask since most of the 149K impressions for this tweet did not even know what Webbon had said about Wilson.

Canon has a history of trolling. They previously pushed the Doug Wilson “bridge burning” video from 2024 while dressed like Mr. Rogers. Last year, they also trolled Christianity Today with a buyout offer which was ultimately a savvy marketing ploy to boast of Canon’s success and financial formidability. Even on this recent post, they were actually reposting their critiques and engaging them, perhaps simply for the effect of the image going more viral.

The idea that Wilson is the adult in the room is a farce, and posts like this discredit his camp and do a disservice to Canon in the long run. One might expect better behavior from Wilson and Canon, but they only know how to double down. In many ways, the grand irony of this feud is that both Wilson and Webbon are more alike than they likely realize.
