The Trump Administration did the right thing. It asked Kimberly Guilfoyle to resign as U.S. Ambassador to Greece after a Wall Street Journal report laid out her attempt to shake down a Republican donor for $100000 to pay her American Express bill. President Trump confirmed he requested the resignation after reading the reports. Press Secretary Katie Zacharia stated the White House had asked Guilfoyle to step down. The move came fast and without hesitation.
The scandal turned on texts Guilfoyle sent to a major donor in the days before her confirmation hearing. She asked the donor to wire $100,000 straight to her American Express account in exchange for access to administration officials. The donor, who wanted meetings with White House staff, refused.
Guilfoyle denied any wrongdoing. She told the White House the texts were AI-generated. She has not addressed the donor’s account in public. The episode ended her short run in Athens. Guilfoyle, the former Fox News host and Trump surrogate, had held the post less than two years. She announced her departure and is expected to return to Florida.
The White House handled this one cleanly. Guilfoyle solicited a bribe. She got shown the door. The same standard now needs to apply to Mike Huckabee.
Huckabee met publicly with Jonathan Pollard, the American convicted of treason for spying for Israel. He has maintained that friendship while serving as U.S. Ambassador to Israel. At the same time, his principal aide, David Milstein, has blocked, delayed, or rewritten diplomatic cables that contained information critical of Israel. Fifteen current and former American diplomatic officials confirmed the pattern.
Milstein, Mark Levin’s son-in-law and a former Ted Cruz staffer, has operated as gatekeeper at the embassy in Jerusalem. The cables that reached Washington were altered to protect Israeli interests. The accurate transmission of facts to American leadership took second place.
Huckabee dismissed the reporting as “farcical.” The record shows otherwise. A U.S. ambassador who meets with a convicted traitor to the United States and whose staff rewrites official cables to shield a foreign government has crossed the same line Guilfoyle did. The Trump Administration forced one resignation over a bribe. It should force another over disloyalty.
