Shane Gillis is, at this moment, the most prominent stand-up comedian in America. Earlier this year, he hosted the Roast of Kevin Hart, dropped the third season of Tires, also on Netflix, is in many commercials, and has a historically successful standup tour. Last week he appeared on SNL and joked about modesty.
Going to the public gym as a fat guy—especially in New York—is a nightmare, dude. It’s just the hottest gay guys you’ve ever seen. They’re jacked and they look at me like, “Yeah, right. I know, dude.”
Also, I haven’t been to the gym in so long. I didn’t know women just dressed like whores now. Look, I’m sorry—there’s no other way to describe it. Have you seen it? I’ve seen it. The shorts. Have you seen the shorts? Those neon ones. They’re like artificial bait-colored. And the wrinkles… the wrinkles go around the cheeks and all combine at the butthole.
And don’t look. You’re not allowed to look. For real, don’t look, because they are filming. I’m in the background of like 10 TikToks right now.
All the equipment—I haven’t been in the gym in so long. The equipment’s changed. It’s all kettlebells and rubber bands and ropes. I’m not doing kettlebells fat publicly. I’d rather die, so I don’t do that.
This is the joke that upset the left. Shane Gillis is hardly the first comedian to joke about women dressing like whores at the gym. And this is not even the first time he’s made the joke this year. The aforementioned Tires on Netflix featured this joke as a bit in its third season. Nobody cared. And Tires is arguably the best show Netflix has ever made. It is their The Office. In the show Tires Gillis plays a politically incorrect Jack Sparrow type of character. It’s honestly a surprise that there hasn’t been a struggle session to get it canceled.
What Gillis said on SNL is true, except that prostitutes on the streets dress more modestly. Dave Chappelle also famously joked about women causing confusion to men by dressing like whores because they are “wearing the uniform.”
Comedians and preachers are the two sources of uncomfortable truth that society needs. Obviously, gospel preachers are more important, but comedians, by trade, are master communicators and the court jester is a tradition of western civilization.
This episode merely caused the star of Shane Gillis to rise further, while also highlighting that wokeness is not going away, and is making a comeback where possible.
