The Bible, Race, and Physiognomy

Wesley Todd Discusses The Bible, Race, & Physiognomy

Wesley Todd is a cohost on Right Response Ministries, but to the surprise of many, he is credentialed and well-read in the field of biomedical science. Following an episode on genetics that garnered a lot of controversy, I invited Wesley Todd on for an interview to expand upon the topic discussed with Joel Webbon.

When Wesley speaks of race, he purely means it as a biological reality. He cites a study where AI could accurately determine race 80% of the time in distorted images, the example cited being an x-ray of rib cages. He says that different races would have sprung up in a prelapsarian world because God did not intend a homogenous creation.

From there, we nerd out a little bit on Noah’s sons and the Table of Nations. He was also unsure where Asian people originate, positing that it could be a mix between Shem and Japheth. I get his take on giants, and he believes that the Raphaim bred themselves into being giants, as he is a Line of Seth view of the pre-deluge Nephilum.

I also expanded the conversation into physiognomy, the belief that outward appearances are a manifestation of what’s going on inside.  For instance, the people on Libs of TikTok look like orcs, and the people at the Christ Is King conference were normal-looking and had a below national average BMI. This leads to a discussion about self-discipline, whether beauty has a moral component to it.

Wesley Todd takes an approach that highlights the material world’s effect on the spiritual, not to the exclusion of the reverse happening. The belief that sin can further degrade humanity and that grace can transform nature a increasingly going to be a pressing matter as the church, and broader culture debate what a nation is.
