Southern Baptists scored a victory on day one of their convention where a motion was made to unseat/disfellowship FBC Alexandria for having and promoting female pastors in the Southern Baptist Convention. Last month FBC Alexandria tried to flex their Cooperative Program giving to deter disfellowshipping. This failed miserably to change their fate.
After their messenger gave a speech proclaiming how their church has had female pastors dating back to 1980, he doubled down on his position. The Credentials Committee who recommended the disfellowshipping stated it matter-of-factly in concluding that FBC Alexandria was not in friendly cooperation.
In the ensuing vote, 91.78% voted in favor of disfellowshipping FBC Alexandria. This was the biggest victory for Baptists on day one of the SBC24.
