The Southern Baptist Convention has a burn notice out on Kevin Smith, not for holding to Baptist orthodoxy, but rather because he partook in an attempt to oust Brent Leatherwood from his position at the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission, and his coup attempt failed. Their narrative is that Smith acted alone while Smith initially stated he believed he was acting on consensus.
Since then the liberal Baptist news outlet, Baptist News Global, published an article with salacious claims against Kevin Smith. The first one involves him hiding under a female employee’s desk.
BNG has confirmed that while serving as executive director of the Baptist Convention of Maryland and Delaware, Smith allegedly hid under the desk of a female employee, resulting in complaints that now sit in a file in the human resources office there. A BNG representative attempted to verify the contents of the file — including why Smith took such an odd action — but was told this is a “personnel matter” and cannot be discussed.
We further attempted to ask his current employer, Family Church Village in West Palm Beach, Fla., if they were aware of this incident when they hired him, and they replied with “no comment.”
Whether it was an office prank or an upskirt fantasy, Kevin Smith was soon moved to Florida due to his connections. BNG further alleges Smith has falsified his doctorate.
For many years, Smith also held himself out as having an earned doctorate, which he apparently does not have. After eventually being confronted about this, he stopped calling himself Dr. Smith. We can find no evidence of him having a doctorate. If we’re wrong about this, someone please show us the diploma and we’ll make a correction to this article.
This is eerily similar to Willie McLaurin, who is also Black, faking his academic resume. Kevin Smith was long controversial because of his blatant liberalism.
BNG uses Kevin Smith to illustrate the good ol’ boys network of the SBC, a point in which they are not wrong to highlight.

Ironic because Baptist News Global is militantly pro-gay, pro-trans, apostate Baptist associated with the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship. They left the SBC over 30 years ago but they watch it like vultures looking with increasing hopefulness for their eventual comeback. And I don’t really think there is much news to cover with the CBF.
