Christians Should Boycott The Paris 2024 Olympics

The opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympics in Paris showed that when it comes to hosting the Olympics, France is worse than literally Hitler. With decadent displays of homosexuality and transgenderism in blasphemous fashion and crude depictions of past French monarchs, France celebrated the worst aspects of western culture with their chance to impress on the world stage. There are a lot of talks about boycotting the Olympics, and I believe that this is the time to exert our influence to inflict pain on the Olympics to make them change course in 2028.

First, I want to make it clear that I am not binding the conscience of believers. This is not a sin issue. This is a strategy issue. With that said, it’s important to understand the recent history of the Olympics and the precarious position the games find themselves in.

When Paris was awarded as the host city, only two cities competed for the honor of hosting the games: Paris and Los Angeles. And so Paris was awarded 2024 and LA 2028. This was unprecedented as the Olympic committee was afraid that no one would bid for 2028. In truth, hosting the Olympics is a net negative for the host. It’s not profitable. It requires a lot of infrastructure. The Olympics keep expanding their games which requires more facilities. If something goes wrong, like a bombing, it’s a stain on the reputation of the hosts. Los Angeles is one of the few cities that can pull it off, which is why they bid (but they pulled it off a long time ago.) The vulnerability of the Olympics should embolden us to boycott them.

The Paris Olympics have opened to an embarrassment, as the French think it wise to blaspheme a Holy God. They want this as their foot forward to the world. And so the Olympics are deserving of imprecatory prayers as well as an active boycott. The point of the boycott is to make this Olympics unprofitable for Paris. So far, it has been a disastrous games for France with power outages and weather delays. The worse this goes for France, the more inclined Los Angeles will be to course correct. And as Americans, we want that.

The Olympics has reportedly removed their opening ceremony from YouTube which is a good start, but it’s time to inflict pain.
