Rick Warren’s recent teaching on the crucifixion fancied Jesus as an enlightened centrist between two thieves. Rick Warren pioneered seeker-friendly megachurch culture, in the United States, and taught many pastors and church planters to do likewise using Purpose Driven Church. Eventually, the Southern Baptist Convention would disfellowship Warren’s Saddleback Church over their ordination of female pastors. Warren would further embarrass himself receiving nigh universal mockery and disagreement. Now Warren has tacitly responded to criticism.
Rick Warren would unceremoniously delete this post that got him coverage all over Christian and conservative media.
Rick Warren is one of the most egotistical pastors alive. So for him to respond to public backlash is an interesting development, if not then simply hilarious. However, with his hubris put in check by public opinion, Warren capitulated and deleted to save face. Warren has not spoken further on the matter.
Because of how viral and widely published Warren’s sentiment was, this may have been the most damaging act to his legacy since being booted from the Southern Baptist Convention.
