Neil Shenvi Asks Who Funds The New Right. Our Answer

This question seems to come up a lot: who is funding the so-called Dissident Right. The Dissiedent Right or New Right (which is often also referred to as the Old Right) is an umbrella term for right of center politics that rejects liberalism. This creates a problem for those in American politics who followed in the footsteps of William F Buckley who was instrumental in bolstering neoconservatism. Alas, the rise of Trump has shattered Buckley’s neocons, as Trump’s antiwar demeanor has won the Republicans.

The neocons still in control of Conservative Inc., Blaze Media, Fox News, and The Daily Wire are all neocon-owned outlets. Conservative Inc.’s inevitable demise leaves the door open for the Wild West of social media to capitalize, and many have.

So with this success, many have posited who is funding these people, be they Christian Nationalists or others. Christian Nationalists have been maligned as being funded by Qararis and the Feds. But not a shred of evidence supports this. Even Christian Nationalist organizations do not receive federal funding.

Yet the slander persists.

Neil Shenvi is perhaps being more genuine than usual when asking:

TBH I am actually curious about who’s funding the New/Dissident Right. Is that known?

While Charles Haywood was quick to volunteer himself, the Shampoo Warlord who made a fortune in acquisition entrepreneurship. Haywood, indeed would be a whale on the New Right. There is also New Founding, David Reece, and a number of other younger entrepreneurs on the New Right with some prominence.

But the answer to Shenvi’s question is that the New Right monetized social media and is generally funded by everyday Americans. Even things like Influenceable, the firm that paid MAGA influencers to defend food stamps buying soda, isn’t big on the New Rigth, as this business is mostly MAGA.

Our friend, Jeff Wright, had an excellent response to Shenvi.

I’m sure I’m not the only one who saw this but Neil is telling on himself. He’s pastored by a Shepherd for Sale to the highest degree possible. He thinks that is how people work. No category for organic organization. Because that’s all he knows.

When you live in a world where big money astroturfing is how people get famous, you assume everyone famous is bought and paid for. But that is far from the case. The New Right might have some young whales, but in general, it is an audience-supported venture.
