Kay Arthur Dead At 91

Earlier this week, it was announced that Kay Arthur had passed away. Kay Arthur (born November 11, 1933) is an American Christian author, speaker, and teacher, best known for her work in Bible study and discipleship. She is the co-founder of Precept Ministries International, an organization dedicated to teaching people how to study the Bible inductively.

Early Life and Conversion

Born in Jackson, Michigan, Arthur grew up in a nominally Christian home but did not have a personal relationship with Christ until later in life. After experiencing personal struggles, including the suicide of her first husband, she turned to Scripture and committed her life to Christ.

Ministry and Precept Ministries

In 1970, Kay Arthur and her second husband, Jack Arthur, founded Precept Ministries in Chattanooga, Tennessee. The ministry emphasizes inductive Bible study, a method that encourages believers to observe, interpret, and apply Scripture for themselves rather than relying solely on preachers or commentaries.
Her approach gained widespread popularity, leading to the development of Bible study materials, workshops, and conferences. Precept Ministries expanded globally, reaching millions of people in over 180 countries.

Teaching and Publications

Kay Arthur is a prolific author, having written over 100 books and Bible study guides, including:

  • Lord, Teach Me to Study the Bible in 28 Days
  • His Imprint, My Expression
  • When the Hurt Runs Deep

She has also been a featured speaker at major Christian conferences and on television and radio programs, including Precepts for Life, a daily Bible teaching broadcast.

Legacy and Influence

Arthur’s ministry has been influential in promoting personal Bible study among lay Christians, particularly women. Her no-nonsense, Scripture-focused teaching style has earned her respect among evangelicals and conservative Christians.

Despite controversies over her strong doctrinal stances (such as her cessationist views on spiritual gifts), she remains a respected figure in Christian discipleship.

  1. 1st Timothy 2:12; 1st Corinthians 14:34-35; Genesis 3:16; Ephesians 5:22-24; 1st Corinthians 11:3; there are a host of other errors from Kay Arthur; yet why waste the time. The Biblical Commandments are CLEAR. Beside John Knox, there are numerous Reformers who would beg to differ with the all the acceptance today of women teachers/ministers. Here we go again, biting the Apple in the Garden.
