The Annual Southern Baptist Convention is underway in Dallas, Texas. Southern Baptists introduced motions that would dictate the meeting schedule on Tuesday.
Willie Rice led off with a motion to abolish the Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission of the Southern Baptist Convention. This motion was scheduled for the 11:45 vote on Wednesday. It would need to pass two consecutive years in order to succeed.
Juan Sanchez reintroduced the Mike Law Amendment and in doing so, asked for standing rules to be suspended so that the amendment could get a vote in this convention. Ordinarily, it would have to go through the Executive Committee for a year before becoming a ballot item. But now it is a 3:00 agenda item slated for a vote, after Southern Baptists voted to suspend the standing rule.
These are key battles for Southern Baptists contending for the faith.
