In recent years, there has been a slew of pastoral scandals involving adultery, something that really marked the year 2024. This year, Tyler Jones, Vice President and Vintage Church Pastor, Tyler Jones was terminated after confessing to a long term adultery.
Per an email that circulated to congregants of Vintage Church, during an elder meeting on February 18, Jones confessed to a long-term affair that reportedly began after he founded Vintage Church in 2002. He joined Acts 29 in 2003. Another source told Protestia that the affair lasted seven years between 2012 and 2019. The precise timeline of the affair is under dispute, though it could very well be that there were multiple affairs.
Sources might try to distinguish between whether or not the woman was a member of the church, but this would be imposing a feminist “power dynamics” narrative into what Scripture clearly calls sin by all parties involved. That he was a pastor does not absolved any mistress of her role in the sin, but it does heighten the severity of his sin.
Jones’s legacy at Acts 29 coincides with their drift into Side B Theology and Critical Race Theory, both of which have caused many churches to withdraw from the network. The rot with the organization is at the tope levels. Acts 29 board member Hunter Beaumont having pro-homosexuality views among his staff, and Matt Chandler who notoriously stated that he would higher the Black 7 over the Anglo 8. Acts 29 promoted and subsequently deleted a pro-sodomy video which featured Mike Sullivan stating that gays enjoy “good love” in their community.
That Jones was party to the rot is inarguable, yet the rot was also internal.
