As Iowa Republicans head to the polls on June 2, 2026, in a crowded primary to replace term-limited Gov. Kim Reynolds, a late surge by businessman and farmer Zach Lahn has turned what many expected to be a straightforward win for Congressman Randy Feenstra into a tight contest. A new poll released just days before the vote shows Lahn narrowly leading in a three-man race.
A recent poll by JMC Analytics and Polling of 550 likely Republican primary voters found Lahn at 24% and Feenstra at 22%, with former state administrator Adam Steen at 15%, state Rep. Eddie Andrews at 4%, and former state Rep. Brad Sherman at 8%. When including leaners among the undecided (27% of respondents), Lahn’s lead widened to 27%-24%.
Lahn performed particularly strongly among key Republican constituencies: he led Evangelicals 33%-14% over Feenstra and held a slight edge (29%-28%) among Trump supporters. Feenstra maintained better support among establishment voters. Lahn also boasted stronger net favorability (+22%) compared to Feenstra’s +3%.
The race has national undertones. Lahn has aligned himself with elements of the Make America Healthy Again (MAHA) movement, emphasizing Iowa’s agricultural challenges, rising cancer rates, water quality, and opposition to corporate overreach, including foreign ownership of farmland and large data centers. Lahn’s Iowa first messaging play squarely into nationalistic politics, and it would seem that Zach Lahn has avoided the Zionism issue altogether, unlike his opponents. In contrast, Randy Feenstra has a record in Congress of being Israel First.
As a result of Lahn’s nationalistic and MAHA approach to politics, he holds a strong lead against Feenstra among Evangelicals while running against a heavily backed Evangelical, Adam Steen.
Late Endorsements
On Friday, endorsements came pouring into this race. Fresh off of his stat-padding victory in Texas, Donald Trump took a risk and endorsed Randy Feenstra. As Trump showed up late to Paxton, it’s possible he is confident that Feenstra will clear 35%. But the polling hasn’t indicated that Feenstra or Lahn will clear 35% to win outright.
Turning Point Action, the PAC founded by Charlie Kirk, has been active in the ground game in key primaries in the United States. They declared on Friday for Zach Lahn.
Deace Crew Gambit
Steve Deace, of Blaze TV, has been a force in Iowa politics. However, since the 2024 primary, there is mounting reason to question how much he and his close ally Bob Vander Plaats still hold in Iowa elections. Both have heavily backed Steen from early on, as Deace, to his credit, recognized Feenstra as a RINO. Deace conceded that a TPUSA endorsement of Lahn would put him over the finish line, and believes that his campaign is useful to force a convention determination of the nominee. Still, it’s fascinating that Deace got outflanked on the right, in his home state here.
Huge Upside
If Zach Lahn can come out of obscurity and win this primary, his profile as an America First Christian governor could make him eventual presidential material, assuming he wins the general election and governs well. Obviously, he wouldn’t be ready by 2028, but with Iowa being a critical state in the primary process, it’s not impossible that he could be on a shortlist of serious Republican presidential contenders in a few cycles.
But in the meantime, Zach Lahn is evidence that Evangelical voters generally do not care about candidates groveling to Israel and the Jewish lobby. Feenstra has done that and is the most liberal candidate in the race, with a considerable disadvantage and likely underwater among Evangelicals. This dispels the myth that Israel is a voting priority compared to other issues.

All of this will happen if Section 224 passes.
