The 2026 Southern Baptist Convention was not looking to amount to much, but when the final gavel had sounded, the scoreboard told a story of an unlikely resurgence in Baptist life. The liberals were soundly defeated.
Presidential Race
As previously reported, Willy Rice soundly defeated Josh Powell in the presidential race with 57.56% of the vote in a 2 man race. Even with homefield advantage, it was an upset that the anti-establishment candidate, specifically a man booted from the establishment, would beat their guy.
Mohler Amendment
Al Mohler’s amendment also prevailed. Mohler was first to make a motion in the first morning session. And in that afternoon, they won a critical procedural vote to have the amendment voted on at this convention as opposed to throwing it at the mercy of an Executive Committee helmed by liberal Jeff Iorg. After suspending standing rule 6, the next morning was the vote. There was little debate. Before lunch, it was announced that the amendment had passed with 74.66% of the vote, a 3-1 ratio with a record high 6028 votes against a record low 2026 votes (record for this amendment).
Revolt Against Task Forces
Southern Baptists postponed all task forces to be helmed by either the Executive Committee or the president. It appears they are fatigued by these.
Woke Resolutions
In the garbage time of the Wednesday afternoon session, many messengers had left, and the platform decided to impose their woke resolutions on the remaining messengers, even if it meant going late.
Bart Barber calls the question in support of Resolution 7, the amnesty resolution, closing debate on an amendment to lessen the amnesty language.
On the antisemitism resolution, Resolution 10, Dan Darling argued against specifying that the amendment only condemns “unfounded” conspiracy theories about Jews, as opposed to founded ones. Antisemitism was also undefined. Darling is the biggest Ukraine shill in Evangelicalism and led an effort alongside Russell Moore to have churches be Covid jab sites. It’s not a coincidence that notorious wolves mobilized for these woke amendments.
Additionally, William Wolfe of the Center For Baptist Leadership introduced an amendment to Resolution 6 on political violence to specifically name and honor Charlie Kirk, as he was the inspiration for the amendment. The committee member chided the convention that he knew Kirk better than anyone there and rejected the amendment, stating that they were intentionally vague, despite the SBC’s history of naming names in resolutions, specifically when RFK was assassinated. Wolfe’s amendment failed.
Conclusion
A lot of Baptists may look at the dumpster fire of a resolutions committee and conclude that there is no hope for the SBC. However, the scoreboard tells a different story. All the big votes were won by the Baptists. They were up big going into the 4th quarter, and the liberals scored some garbage time touchdowns.
2027 will be a test of whether the convention’s second conservative resurgence is legitimate or just a fluke. But congrats to the faithful Southern Baptists on a surprisingly good year.

This ordeal makes the SBC sound like a political party fighting for direction. It’s dead, Jim.
Regardless of the turnout the natural vulnerability of conservatives is their self-sabotaging in-group preference including especially nepotism. This is why they always lose any culture war in the long run. They intentionally drive any divergent human to the adversary and then get beaten by them, because who’s left is no match for their abilities.
