Earlier in the month I penned a piece about how God gave me a sense of assurance and purpose in the midst of my miserable working experience. A main source of grievance was how the company was treating my friend. As I explained, a bad situation landed him in a tough financial situation. I also came to the epiphany that the Lord was keeping me at my job because of my friend. God was and is at work.
A detail not present in the first part of this story was that the company gave my friend assurance that he would receive vacation pay. They walked back on their words. In the meantime he wasn’t able to come into work, and rent was impending. I periodically called him throughout the month. He was in my thoughts and prayers as well. I wanted to check in on him and keep the loneliness at bay. Last Friday, when I called after a lazily successful workday, I was surprised by the developments. My friend improved his relationship with his family enough to get their much-needed assistance.
He was able to work to come into the office this week, and I had the pleasure of working with him. I have been a manager for about a month. They gave me the employees they didn’t like which initially included my friend. Since then, the employees they gave me all quit or got fired. Due to vacations and other shortages, I received a legitimate crew. With a higher caliber crew, we were all able to improve. On Wednesday, my friend joined my crew. His performance was notably improved. His sanity also well on its way to normal levels.
In seeing this, I saw my prayers answered. My friend was somewhat back on his feet. While at work, he is under my care. And through these means, God can work through me. I want you to focus on 1 John 4:7-11 NASB:
7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8 The one who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 By this the love of God was manifested in us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world so that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
God’s love is real and powerful. In order for us to love others we need to be loved by God. This is the love that I showed to my friend. This is the love that had me praying for his survival. Think about whether there is someone in your life who needs the power of God’s love.
