Last September, Adam Greenway was fired from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. It was widely known the financial situation was bad, as Paige Patterson supporters stopped funding the seminary. But the situation was far worse and unbecoming than previously speculated. According to a leaked document obtained by Capstone Report, SWBTS was taking out credit cards on their faculty and wrecking the credit scores of the staff.
The leak from the Sligar report reads:
In addition to the financial picture that we have seen and clearly understand regarding Dr. Greenway it was uncovered during the review that there was American Express agreement entered into, and that contract contained personal guarantee from the card holder and included personal information (Full Name, DOB, SSN, etc.) this was done without the faculty/staff members authorization. This made the faculty/staff financially responsible for the card payments if SWBTS failed to pay. When bills were paid late it began to affect the credit scores of the individuals. This level of incompetence opens the door for the seminary and/or credit card manager for possible contract violations or legal issues.
The nature of this leak is a working draft report that had yet been finalized. It’s authenticity was verified.
This is the latest financial impropriety to arise from a Southern Baptist entity. The SBC is currently under investigation by the DOJ, and while the SBC claims the investigation is over sex abuse cover ups, of which the Guidepost Report found none, this appears to be quite criminal.
